Chief Operating Officer

New Life Community Services is a not-for-profit social service agency that seeks to bring hope and purpose to children, youths, and seniors so that they go on to create a positive impact in their community and society.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee the organization’s ongoing operations and procedures, ensuring the agency functions effectively and efficiently to achieve its mission.

As a key member of the executive leadership team, the COO will work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors and senior management team to set strategic goals, ensure effective operations, and manage the organization’s resources to advance its charity’s mission.

The COO will also provide leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure the organization has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.


Key responsibilities:

1. Operational Leadership

  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures that align with the organization's overall mission and strategic objectives. Oversee daily operations of the agency and the work of the various departments including Finance, Human Resources, Digital and Information Technology, Operations and Facilities Management and Corporate Governance.

2. Strategic Planning

  • Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement the organization's strategic plan.

3. Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify and mitigate operational risks that may impact the organization's reputation and operations.

4. Communication and Collaboration

  • Foster a culture of collaboration and communication across all levels of the organization.

5. Financial Management

  • Work closely with Finance Manager and finance team to develop and manage annual budgets that support operating plans and submit budgets for Board approval.

6. Human Resources and Talent Management

  • Oversee recruitment, training, and retention of staff, ensuring that the organization has the right talent to achieve its objectives.

7. Organization Development

  • Understanding the organizations strategy and direction, propose plans and resources required for organization development for senior leadership agreement and boards approval.

8. Technology and Innovation

  • Leading efforts to leverage technology and innovation to improve operational efficiency and competitiveness.

9. Executive Leadership

  • Providing strong leadership and guidance to the management team and employees.

10. Performance Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitoring overall performance against strategic goals and objectives.

11. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, beneficiaries, and regulatory bodies.

12. Board Support

  • Provide operational and strategic reports to the board of directors, ensuring they are informed of key issues and developments.

Job Requirements

  • Alignment and commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Proven experience as a COO or equivalent executive position, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit operations, financial management, and governance.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and motivate teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as HR, finance, program management, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, non-profit management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
