UWCSEA East is seeking to recruit a highly flexible and capable relief teacher who is contracted for a minimum of 22 relief periods per week.

Please note that to apply for this role, you must have an internationally recognised qualification and reside in Singapore.

The successful candidate will be highly resourceful, positive and flexible, able to establish rapport with Primary-aged students (aged 4-11).

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide a happy, stimulating, safe learning environment for all children and bring a sense of energy, joy and fun to the classroom.
  • Teach and assess through engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that promote agentic learning and the holistic development of each child; plan for lessons if advanced notice is provided.
  • Supervise activities, service, and outdoor trips as required.
  • Employ a wide variety of learning and teaching strategies including the use of new technologies to make learning both effective and enjoyable.
  • Integrate technology effectively within the classroom for learning, planning, assessment purposes and the documentation of student learning.
  • To build positive and effective relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Reflect continually on your craft as a teacher and commit to personal and professional development and growth.
  • Cover a minimum of 22 periods each week.
  • Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs with similar levels of responsibility and complexity to the assigned job grade as may be reasonably requested by the line manager and/or the College

Expectations and Standards

Person Specifications

  • A relevant degree in Primary Education from an accredited institution and a recognized professional teaching qualification or certification are essential.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years, classroom based teaching experience, preferably in international schools (4-11 year olds).
  • Experience teaching students who are English Language Learners.
  • Flexibility, positivity and ability to build rapport with students are important.
  • A committed and creative practitioner, you will reflect on your own teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative practice to raise achievement.
  • A passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
  • The ability to engage with students and to engender enthusiasm for learning is a prerequisite for teaching at UWCSEA.
  • A willingness to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, enthusiastic participation in and delivery of Professional Learning is expected.
  • Evidence of regular and recent professional learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written and spoken. The language of the workplace and the language of instruction is English.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
  • Ability to adapt to different classroom environments swiftly and effectively.

Knowledge of and experience of the following would be an advantage:

  • International curricula, their delivery and assessment
  • Concept-based teaching and learning - a desire to engage children in concept-based learning, where they develop big ideas both specific to subject areas and transcending them.
  • Reggio Emilia inspired, child centred, play based approaches
  • Creating agentic learning environments and opportunities
  • Supporting children in outdoor learning environments
