The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of a full-time Research Associate on a 7-month contract at the Learning Sciences and Assessment Department.
Project Title: Empowering Students through Learning Analytics: The Role of Visualization Design
Project Introduction: Join a project exploring how learning analytics tools like dashboards influence student decision-making and self-regulation. We aim to identify key design features (e.g., data metrics, prompts) and evaluate their impact on student outcomes such as motivation and emotion. The project involves a literature review and experimental study to uncover effective design elements.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, Data Science, Learning Analytics, Educational Psychology)
- Have experience in educational research; is familiar with survey administration and data analysis
- Demonstrate ability to propose, design, and implement appropriate research instruments
- Be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Have good oral and written communication skills
- Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to set priorities
Responsibilities:
- Conduct literature reviews on the design of learning analytics visualizations.
- Develop and administer surveys.
- Help recruit participants by communicating with teachers and students.
- Analyze data from experiments and surveys.
- Assist in preparing project progress and final reports.
- Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
