Department Overview

Chief Data Office is the Group Central Data and Analytics arm that works closely with the Group Businesses and Group Corporate functions to enable the execution of Nomura Group Strategy through Robust Data Standards & Governance, Actionable Performance Metrics & MIS, and High Impact Information and Analytics Products and Solution.

Job Purpose

Develop and implement data science and AI solutions to drive business growth and operational efficiency across Nomura's Asia ex-Japan (AEJ) markets.

Role Description
Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their data and analytical needs and translate them into actionable data science and AI solutions.
• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and AI applications to support various business functions, such as:
o Risk management
o Trading strategies
o Customer analytics
o Process automation
• Perform data mining, exploratory data analysis, and feature engineering to extract insights from structured and unstructured data sources.
• Implement and maintain data pipelines, ensuring:
i. Data quality ii. Data integrity iii. Data security
• Develop and optimize AI/ML models, ensuring:
i. Model accuracy ii. Scalability iii. Performance
• Building and managing model pipelines for test, train, and deployment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, software developers, and subject matter experts, to ensure seamless integration of data science and AI solutions.
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and AI technologies, and continuously improve existing solutions.
• Implement AI governance practices, such as:
o Personally Identifiable Information (PII) detection
o Model bias detection and mitigation
o Model explainability and interpretability
o Ethical AI principles and guidelines

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or AI-related roles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or other relevant languages, with experience in data manipulation, visualization, and machine learning libraries.
  • Proficiency in managing research data, data architecture, data management, databases, data classification, data mining, and data processing techniques.
  • Experience in developing data processing applications and managing AI/ML on cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of AI governance concepts, frameworks, deployment, and model management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and project management practices.
