Assistant Teachers work in a direct support role, providing assistance to students and Class Teachers. They give classrooms the hands-on support they need to successfully educate students, taking care of certain tasks so that Class Teachers are able to properly instruct the students. They have a key role in adjusting lessons to help each student learn the content by giving them the one-on-one guidance they need after a group lesson with the Class Teacher.
Responsibilities
- Oversee students in classroom settings as well as non-classroom settings like outdoor play, learning journey and snack time
- Assist class teachers in routines such as changing, snack time
- Work in small groups or one-on-one with students in the classroom to reinforce instructional material.
- Assist class teacher in organizing the learning environment, preparing materials and maintaining resources.
- Encouraging student participation, promoting positive behavior, and reinforcing classroom rules and expectations
- Perform recordkeeping duties associated with the classroom including attendance
- Facilitate students in proper classroom procedures and behavior.
- Collaborate with teachers on a regular basis regarding student progress.
- Adapt instructional materials as necessary to meet special education guidelines.
- Work with class teacher in managing challenging behaviours
- Supervise the safety of students in and out of the classroom, following guidelines and implementing school standards under the direction of the class teacher.

- Understanding of basic principles of child development
- Ability to interact comfortably with children and staff
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to changes in a dynamic environment
- Experience working with young children
- ECDA recognised FECCE cert
