Position Overview: As a Network Operations Center (NOC) Operator for a submarine cable system, you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the operational integrity of the submarine cable network. Your role is crucial in ensuring uninterrupted communication and data transmission across international regions through the submarine cable infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- 24/7 Monitoring: Monitor the submarine cable network and associated systems 24/7 to detect and promptly respond to any anomalies, outages, or performance degradation.
- Incident Management: Quickly identify and assess network incidents, troubleshoot issues, and follow established procedures to resolve or escalate problems to higher levels of support as necessary.
- Fault Resolution: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Cable Landing Station (CLS) engineers, fronthaul engineers, and external partners, to troubleshoot and resolve network faults, ensuring minimal downtime and service disruption.
- Performance Optimization: Analyze network performance data, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvements to enhance overall network efficiency and reliability.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of network events, incidents, and actions taken during your shifts. Contribute to creating and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Emergency Response: Act swiftly during emergency situations, such as cable faults or security breaches, to ensure the safety and stability of the submarine cable network.
- Proactive Monitoring: Implement proactive measures to prevent potential network issues, including routine checks, system updates, and configuration adjustments, with close supervision and vetting by the NOC Head/Manager.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including third-party service providers and customers, to provide updates on network status and incident resolutions.
- Equipment Management: Maintain a thorough understanding of the network infrastructure, including undersea cables, landing stations, and associated equipment. Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest developments in submarine cable technology, network monitoring tools, and industry best practices to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to industry regulations, security protocols, and especially confidentiality requirements related to the operation of the submarine cable system.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
- 3-5 years of experience with a telecommunication service provider or a major transmission equipment vendor
- Prior experience in an NOC environment and/or optical transmission is highly desirable
- Graduate or Diploma in Telecommunications/Electrical Engineering. Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or similar qualifications are a plus
- Strong understanding of submarine cable systems, networking principles, and telecommunications technologies. Good understanding and working knowledge of SDH, DWDM/submarine cable system operations, ethernet technologies and structured cabling are a plus
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools, protocols, and technologies used in NOC environments
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose, communicate, and resolve complex network issues efficiently
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, especially during high-stress situations
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and coordinate with external partners
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment and handle shifting priorities
- Meticulous in monitoring and documenting network events and actions
