The Principle Research Fellow – Biochemistry and Microbiology will work collaboratively with researchers from the Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS) on projects involving the design of novel biosensory technologies. Special emphasis will be placed in ramping up projects that address the detection of aging biomarkers, bacteria, and viruses. The candidate is also expected to secure research grants, lead the research projects as a PI or co-PI and publish research results in high impact, internationally peer reviewed journals. To further the research footprint and scientific influence of IDMxS, the candidate will play a key role in the preparation of proposals by IDMxS and support the institute’s outreach efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with IDMxS researchers on projects involving biochemistry, molecular biology, and microbiology techniques.
- Supervise and coordinate biochemistry and microbiology research projects from conception through to completion.
- Establish microbiology-centric capabilities, for example aseptic techniques, culture methods, staining, and microscopy.
- Analyze data, interpret results, and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Publish research in scientific journals.
- Apply for competitive research funding and manage funded research projects.
- Mentor junior researchers and students in biochemistry, molecular biology, and microbiology techniques.
Job Requirements:
- PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, or related disciplines and at least 10 years of relevant research experience.
- Proficiency in relevant laboratory techniques.
- Capability to establish new laboratory capabilities.
- Experience with fabrication techniques such as soft lithography, photolithography, and micromachining.
- Strong publication record in relevant journals.
- Experience with application for competitive research funding is an advantage.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on interdisciplinary research projects.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Ability to balance multiple research projects, meet deadlines and effectively collaborate with partners of different backgrounds and levels of expertise.
