Senior Scientist (JL Lab), IMCB

We are looking for a Senior Scientist (laboratory head) who is highly motivated, collaborative, passionate for research, committed to laboratory ethics. The laboratory head will be leading an ongoing IMCB-Mandai Nature joint project on biobanking of different wildlife species samples (live cells, tissues) and the generation of induced Pluripotent Stem Cell at the Endangered Species Conservation via Assisted Reproduction (ESCAR) lab.

Job scope includes the following:

  • Lead the biobanking management and advance endangered species cell culture methodology for different taxonomic groups.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with academic and industry researchers from related fields to strengthen regional and local networks.
  • Engage with academic and industry collaborators and stakeholders in conservation-linked organizations.
  • Provide lab maintenance guidance, record keeping, reporting, safety, and other miscellaneous lab activities.
  • Direct involvement in wet and dry lab experiments using techniques such as cell culture, molecular and cellular biology, microscopy, image analysis.
  • Present important scientific findings at international, regional and local conferences.

This is an opportunity to be involved in authorship of journal papers and multidisciplinary collaborations.

Job Requirement:

  • PhD degree or equivalent in Biological / Life Science disciplines or equivalent field with at least 5 years of laboratory research leadership experience. Passion for wildlife conservation.
  • The following research experience is mandatory:
  • Proficient in molecular biology techniques (e.g. DNA and RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, sequence analysis, plasmid cloning, protein analysis and western blot), data analysis (E.g RNA-seq)
  • Experience in generation of iPSC’s especially of wildlife species
  • Immunostaining, microscopy and image analysis (e.g. FISH)
  • Experience in handling tissue samples for derivation of cell lines
  • Ability to multitask, work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to show initiative, problem solve and achieve agreed objectives.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation, interpersonal skills, with the ability to successfully manage a team and maintain effective communications with collaborators
  • Ensure continuous professional development by keeping up to date with all technical knowledge and skills in line with current best practices.

The following laboratory skills are desirable:

  • Stem cell biology and differentiation.
  • Transcriptomics, metabolomics and proteomics with advanced bioinformatics analysis.
  • Flow cytometry, FACS and high throughput screening analysis.
