Job Description
The National University of Singapore is seeking applications for the position of Visiting Scientist within the Infectious Diseases Translational Research Programme (ID TRP) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The ID TRP comprises a multidisciplinary team of 16 primary members, including both basic scientists and clinician scientists, dedicated to facilitating the seamless translation of research findings. The programme possesses robust expertise in bacterial antibiotic multidrug resistance and emerging viruses, encompassing areas such as epidemiology, molecular mechanisms, animal models, and therapeutic and prophylactic interventions. Additionally, ongoing research initiatives include phage biology, pneumococcal infections, and microbiome studies.
Purpose of the Position
The Visiting Scientist will be an established authority in microbiome research, recognized internationally, who will collaborate closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) and research teams within the ID TRP. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing microbiome-related projects and fostering new research collaborations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as an examiner for PQE or PhD theses when appropriate.
- Collaborate with ID TRP PIs, particularly those specializing in microbiome research, to discuss ongoing projects and encourage productive interactions.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for research collaboration with ID TRP PIs and other researchers at NUSMED/NUS.
- Mentor postgraduate and postdoctoral fellows, providing guidance on their research and professional development.
- Participate in ID TRP seminars and Research Work in Progress meetings.
- Adhere to NUS policies and uphold the highest standards of professional conduct.
- Commit to spending 4-5 weeks at NUS over the course of a 12-month period to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications
The applicant must be an internationally recognized Principal Investigator in microbiome research, with a strong publication record and a history of significant contributions to the field.
