Hedge fund Ops and Fund Accounting

As an operations and fund accounting team member in a hedge fund, you will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operational functions of the firm. Working closely with other operations staff and other departments, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of various operational tasks, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the fund's operations.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Daily BAU Trade Support and Operations work

  • Assists in trade capture and validation processes. Coordinate with traders, brokers, and counterparties to resolve any issues.
  • Monitor trade lifecycle events and ensure timely resolution of any discrepancies.
  • Supports the settlement/confirmation process for trades. Monitor and resolve any settlement-related issues or discrepancies. Coordinate with custodians and other relevant parties to facilitate smooth settlement processes / Confirmation processes.
  • Onboarding of new trading counterparties/ execution platforms and liaising the end-end operational setup at the onset. Assisting the compliance team with counterparty onboarding KYC matters.
  • Work on ad-hoc projects to enable the various Brahman Funds to trade effectively and cost-efficiently. Participate in cost-benefit analysis to assess solutions and ensure the optimal ability to integrate with existing infrastructure.
  • Keep updated on regulatory changes, assess the impact on business and assist with any changes to be implemented.

2. Reconciliation:

  • Perform reconciliations of positions, cash, and transactions.
  • Investigate and resolve breaks or discrepancies in reconciliations.
  • Work with internal and external parties to ensure accurate and timely reconciliation processes.

3. Monthly Fund Accounting:

  • Work with fund administrator on reconciliation of all Fund(s) portfolio in preparation for Fund(s) month end NAV strike
  • Fund(s) Expenses Management to process all Fund invoices promptly.
  • 1st level review of Fund(s) Monthly NAV Pack.

4. Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Identify areas for process improvement and efficiency gains within operations. Propose and implement solutions to streamline operational processes.
  • Participate in projects aimed at enhancing the scalability of the Brahman Funds operations.
  • Work closely with other departments, including portfolio management teams, risk & Pnl teams, and finance, to support their operational needs.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to address system-related issues or enhancements.

5. Compliance:

  • Assist in compliance-related tasks, such as maintaining records and documentation.
  • Monitor regulatory requirements and assist in ensuring adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Support internal audits and compliance reviews as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Take ownership of tasks and timely escalation of issues is critical
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications. The ability to code in Python will be a plus.
  • Knowledge of financial markets, instruments, and investment products.
  • Ability to speak Japanese and liaise on Japan fund operations matters will be required.

Minimum previous 2 to 5 years' experience in financial services or operations/ fund accountant role is required.
