Overview and Objectives of the Position
With the Director of Studies (DoS), responsible for the success of the English pathway program, through the management of educational delivery to an industry-leading standard of quality and in accordance with the requirements of the regulatory environment.
Key Result Areas
1. Academic leadership and management
Oversees the highest standard of English educational services delivery by working with the DoS in:
- planning and coordinating all aspects of educational services, including teaching, and course delivery including lessons and assessments
- overseeing the maintenance of high-quality teaching resources and materials, including liaising with appropriate staff on ordering textbooks, and ensuring that materials used by teachers are correctly presented in accordance with company policy
- monitoring of teachers' non-teaching tasks including teaching records and at-risk tracking records
- ensuring centre teachers receive appropriate and relevant day-to-day direction and support on course curricula, materials, and teaching practice
- actively monitoring teaching standards
- troubleshooting issues arising in student and agent complaints
- participating in organisational forums on educational and marketing issues as appropriate in order to facilitate continuous improvement of educational services, and to promote the competitive market position and profitability of Navitas English
- successfully completing projects using agreed project management frameworks as directed by the DoS
- teaching an appropriate weekly teaching load as directed by the DoS, including standby teaching when required
- developing materials and curricula documents in conjunction with the DoS
- participating in other related projects as required
2. Student Support
Oversees additional support provided to students by:
- managing scheduling, conducting of academic counselling sessions, and record keeping with at-risk students,
- liaising with teaching staff on strategies put in place to support at-risk students
- maintaining resources for additional practice for at-risk students to develop weak areas
- providing learning advisor counselling sessions for students as required
- conducting workshops on relevant topics for students
3. Recruitment and development
Contributes to the highest standard of teacher professionalism and performance by:
- assisting in the recruitment of high-quality centre teaching and educational staff
- participating in the induction and training of new teaching staff
- leading, with the DoS, a comprehensive professional development program for educational staff, including performance and peer observation programs, and teacher professional development workshops
- modelling high standards of work performance
4. Industry liaison
Contributes to the professional standing of Navitas as a centre of excellence by:
- actively promoting Navitas courses, services and expertise in relevant professional forums and to appropriate organisations and clients
- day-to-day liaison and communication with students, clients, and other stakeholders through a range of authorized communication channels, including official social media sites, in accordance with company policy
5. Compliance
Contributes to the meeting all regulator and other compliance requirements by:
- ensuring all policies are adhered to as required by relevant regulator
- assisting in updating of policies and procedures as needed
- ensuring privacy regulations are understood and implemented
- ensuring client records and personal information are stored securely according to Curtin Singapore and Navitas English privacy policies
- cooperating with other Navitas staff and external agencies in a way which ensures Navitas complies with privacy regulations
6. Health and Safety
Contributes to the maintenance of a safe working environment by:
- maintaining local workplaces that are safe and without risk to health
- ensuring relevant occupational health and safety regulations are complied with at local workplaces
Qualifications and Selection
Criteria Essential:
- Degree and CELTA (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years relevant TESOL experience
- Dynamic, talented educator
- Detail sensitive, with excellent initiative, time management, prioritisation, and task completion skills
- Team player, with strong interpersonal skills
- Enthusiastic about working with students, teachers, other staff members
- High standards of written and spoken communication
- Commitment to the market position, reputation, and performance of E&T
Desirable:
- DELTA, Masters in TESOL or Applied Linguistics
- IELTS, Cambridge exam preparation courses, Academic English teaching experience
- e-learning skills
- Strong MS Office competencies, including Outlook, Word and Excel
