Role Purpose (Why do we need this role?)
The Vessel IT Engineer is responsible for managing the day-to-day IT service operations, working closely with the Fleet division and remote team to support vessel IT operations. This role involves liaising with end-users and vendors to identify needs, resolve problems, propose improvements, and ensure compliance with corporate standards.
Role Accountabilities (What is this role responsible for delivering?)
IT Operation Management
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure onboard vessels and at onshore facilities, including networks, hardware, software, servers, and communication systems.
- Managing communication systems such as satellite communication, radio communication, and other data transmission systems to enable effective real-time communication between vessels, shore offices, and other stakeholders.
- Implementing robust cybersecurity measures to protect vessels and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards for data protection.
- Conduct cybersecurity training to the offshore team.
- Work closely with the Fleet division for vessel-related projects.
- Lead and guide the remote helpdesk and Vessel IT team.
- Managing daily IT operational issues.
- Administrative handling of commissioning and decommissioning of vessels IT peripherals.
- Set policies and define service levels for vessel IT offerings and services.
- Manage contracts and communication with sub-suppliers and strategic partners relating to vessel IT.
- Ensure that IT components needed to deliver IT services are identified, accounted for, reported, verified, and audited.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with business and application owners and other IT managers.
- Participate in planning, estimating, reporting, scheduling, and resource management for projects and change enhancements in the area of ship and fleet management.
- Lead the implementation of application and verification procedures to ensure successful installation of systems hardware/software.
- Set up systems according to IMO requirements.
- Work with vendors and other teams to implement system changes according to requirements and checklists.
Remote Team
· Coach and support remote services operations team on any escalation to provide corrective actions and maximize customer satisfaction and team performance
Project Management
· Actively manage agile service operations project progress against quality, standards, budgets and challenging actions, results, and activities
· Ensure compliance with established guidelines for accurate and timely project delivery milestones
Safety
· Take responsibility for the safety of myself and those around me by displaying safety leadership principles (i.e. Safety I’s & Accountability ladder)
· Challenging and stopping unsafe acts and behaviors or unsafe conditions
· Comply with the Global Safety Standards, Polices and Operating Procedures
Key Qualifications & Skills (What knowledge will ensure success in the role?)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or a Diploma with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in multiple database technologies, operating systems, and managing database teams.
- Strong technical knowledge of both IT and OT equipment onboard vessels.
- Experience in managing daily IT operational issues, overseeing IT infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with licensing requirements for all software used within the company.
- Ability to coach and support remote services operations teams to maximize customer satisfaction and team performance.
- Proven experience in project management, including planning, estimating, reporting, scheduling, and resource management.
- Strong leadership skills and adherence to safety principles and guidelines.
