About the Role
YSQ is seeking a motivated and skilled Synthesis Scientist to join our Research and Innovation team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing chemical processes for synthesizing organic compounds, intermediates, and target molecules. This position requires expertise in synthetic chemistry techniques, a strong understanding of chemical principles, and proficiency in analytical and characterization skills.
The role demands an energetic, results-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities may shift frequently. The incumbent will work closely with senior personnel and management to understand the company's needs and meet timelines for producing desired research results. The main duties of the incumbent can be summarized as follows:
Responsibilities
· Design, plan, and execute organic synthesis experiments to develop and optimize chemical processes to produce targeted compounds. This includes the synthesis of novel molecules and the modification of existing synthetic routes.
· Conduct in-depth analysis of synthesized compounds, including assessing their properties, stability, and performance in various applications.
· Perform analytical and spectroscopic techniques (e.g., NMR, HPLC, GC-MS, IR) to characterize and validate the identity and purity of synthesized compounds.
· Collect, record, and analyze experimental data, maintaining accurate and detailed records. Interpret results and troubleshoot reactions as needed.
· Collaborate with external vendors and partners to facilitate preclinical trials of synthesized compounds, ensuring the timely and successful execution of trials and the transfer of synthesized materials as needed.
· Work closely with the regulatory team to ensure the necessary documentation and data are prepared for compound registration after a successful preclinical trial.
· Prepare technical reports, research summaries, and presentations to communicate findings, progress, and recommendations to colleagues and management.
· Provide all the required scientific support to enable the laboratory to function effectively, while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines.
· Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring its proper functioning and coordinating maintenance as needed.
· Train and mentor junior chemists, providing guidance and support in their professional development and laboratory practices.
· Compliance with health and safety rules, fire safety and internal regulations
· Establish lab regulations and records
· Other ad-hoc tasks / projects assigned by Senior Management/Board member
Qualifications
· PhD / Masters / Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry a related science field.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in designing and executing organic synthesis experiments.
· Proficiency in analytical techniques commonly used in organic chemistry, such as NMR, HPLC, GC-MS, and IR.
· Able to manage a multitude of projects and/or vendors simultaneously
· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot reactions and optimize processes.
· Ability to work in a team, creative thinking in resolving issues, diligent in work attitude, and data accuracy
· Able to organize work in a systematic manner, responsible attitude, honesty in the implementation of assigned tasks, reliable and committed in undertaking assigned tasks.
· Able to work under time pressure and to withstand stress.
· Strong commitment to safety and compliance with laboratory protocols.
· Experience with process scale-up and knowledge of scale-up principles is a plus.
· Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Good computer skills (MS Office)
