What is a Data Engineer?
The role of a data engineer can be defined as someone who has the knowledge and skills to design and build systems for collecting, storing and analyzing data at scale.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the project team to develop and validate the data engineering applications
- Drive the maintenance of data engineering pipelines
- Implement data engineering pipelines as per business needs and technical specifications provided by stakeholders and work closely with the data engineering team to ETL the required data from source systems into datastore
- Develop ETL jobs i.e. workflow packages, auto schedulers, in Informatica PowerCenter as per specifications and requirements
- Monitor and ensure ETL jobs are successfully executed and handle troubleshooting of any related technical problems on-site
Skills Required:
A successful data engineer needs to have a combination of technical as well leadership skills. A background in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Management can serve as a solid foundation to build your career as a data engineer.
- 1 to 2 years of ETL experience
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL scripting skills
- Proven experience in Informatica PowerCenter in a similar capacity
- Prior experience with ETL operations using at least one other ETL software such as SSIS, Informatica and/or Talend is a major advantage
- Knowledge of creating ETL packages and configuring workflows
- Knowledge of at least one database tool such as MySQL, MS SQL and/or PostgreSQL
- Adept at queries with good communication and stakeholder management skill
