The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on an 12-month contract at the Natural Sciences and Science Education.


Project Title: Understanding the Current Status and Impacting the Future of Singapore STEM Education Landscape: A Multi-Stage, Multi-Year Evaluation Study


Project Introduction: The Natural Sciences and Science Education department of NIE is hiring one Research Assistant (full-time) to support an MOE-contracted study that seeks to develop research instruments for the evaluation of STEM programmes in Singapore schools. The evaluation study takes on an empowerment stance by working closely with the stakeholders in the design, validation and administration of the research instruments. The period of the contract will be 12 months, and the Research Assistant is expected to participate in all activities related to STEM education and research led by the Principal Investigator.


Requirements:

Essential

  • A good University degree in sciences or social sciences
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience with data collection (qualitative and/or quantitative)
  • Good analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Good organizational skills, shows initiative to plan and anticipate work needed to be done
  • Dynamic and shows positive work attitude
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Proficient in simple statistical analysis (e.g., excel, etc.)
  • Experience liaising with policy makers and education leaders
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision within tight deadlines

Preferred

  • Has previous working experience as Research Assistant in education projects
  • Positive work attitude (especially able to work in a team and value-add to the project)
  • Able to write literature reviews

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will report to A/P Teo Tang Wee and provide support for the delivery of the project outcomes ad outputs. Duties would include, but not limited to the following:

  • Liaison with school and MOE partners
  • Organisation of meetings
  • Coordinating with other team members
  • Publication and report writing
  • All other project administration
