Regulatory Counsel

We are looking for a candidate with a keen interest in regulatory work to assist the Regulatory Department in carrying out its functions.

The candidate will assist in the implementation of the regulatory matters under the Legal Profession Act and to carry out legal research and work on drafting articles for publication in the Singapore Law Gazette to disseminate information on regulatory issues. The specific duties include:

  • Administering the complaints processes, inquiries and mediation in accordance with the Legal Profession Act
  • Liaise with counsel instructed to carry out the litigation for the Society
  • Assist in the administration of Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Accounts) Rules, including interventions into the client account of law practices and inspections and all other regulatory matters
  • Present regulatory matters to Council and Committees in person or via email in a fair and detailed manner

Requirements

  • A recognized bachelor’s degree in law from a reputable university
  • At least 1-3 years of post qualification experience, preferably in the litigation department of a Singapore law practice. Newly qualified may apply.
  • Strong legal analytical skills with the ability to assimilate and evaluate new and complex information
  • Able to balance theoretical concepts with practical implementation
  • Interest to learn and develop new skills, knowledge and capabilities
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong language ability with demonstrated proficiency in writing and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information and arguments clearly and persuasively
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently, whilst maintaining a high quality of work and attention to detail within tight deadlines
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and good team player with good administrative and organisational skills
  • Strong people management skills, with high EQ
  • Highly ethical, discreet and able to maintain confidentiality
