Roles & Responsibilities

You will be working closely with the Singapore Rowing Association (SRA) Management to achieve the following:


1. National Squad Athlete Training

A review of the existing squad and an assessment of capabilities, objectives and achievable targets. All such information, together with attendance records, should be properly recorded and documented and should be submitted to both SRA and SportSG
The development of a [6 month] training plan for all selected athletes to include both on and off water training, whilst reaching a basic understanding of the existing National squad athletes and which events they have qualified for and the existing gaps.
Competition schedule for a rolling 24 months, plus any longer-term major games targets. This includes work on an updated selection criteria , this revised copy needs to be approved by SNOC and published online (standard processes for Major Games). This will include a review of the previously approved selection criteria that the previous EXCO submitted
Assessment of each individual athlete as to current ability (technique, strength, mental resilience, commitment etc), progress , and CEP ( current estimated potential - based on actual assessment )
Ranking of each individual athlete
Creating individual score cards of progress for each athlete for review by Sport SG and SRAExco, to be updated every 14 days
Doing 1 to 1 individual training for each athlete
Helping identify what crews can viably be fielded for competitions and major games and preparing those crews- whether single, doubles, 4s and 8s for qualification
Identifying and training coxswains as appropriate


2. New Athlete Development & Outreach

A core objective of SRA is to expand the pool of athletes so as to develop a larger squad with the potential for more competition for places in elite boats
You will be expected to work with SRA to help build a pipeline for the future of younger athletes with the potential and enthusiasm to carry Singapore rowing forward on a rolling [6] year basis
SRA will assemble a core group to spearhead talent identification among the youth generation including meeting discussions with the Singapore Sports Institute (SSI), National Youth Sports Institute (NYSI) and key secondary and tertiary institutions. It would be ideal for the coach to be able to attend these meetings and presentations at these schools and other institutions as part of our athlete outreach programme This will ensure a more robust continuing feeder talent pool of young rowers for national selection.
Working with schools and other institutions to develop rowing as a school sport
Developing an evidence-based talent identification tool, including, but not limited to,anthropometry, physical and physiological performance and motor coordination

3. Coach Development

Setting up a coach development program to develop and certify a panel of volunteer coaches
Working with World Rowing and other relevant international or regional agencies and associations to provide opportunities and funding for coach development courses
Undertaking a structured coach training programme for the identified coaches
Undertaking a boat rigging and set up clinic for athletes, coaches and anyone else interested
Establishing a coach certification process for SRA in conjunction with SportSg and the SSI.

4. Reporting and Accountability

Be able to provide periodic reporting and updates to SportSg
Be proficient, updated and adhere to the Safe Sport Unified Code (Safeguarding in Sport (safesport.sg)
To the extent that liaison and coordination is required with SSI, you will be a key conduit for that interaction and to help implement the requirements of SportSg in relation to athletes training, welfare and development
