The Methodist School of Music (MSM) is an agency of The Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS). Its Worship and Music (WM) arm seeks to enhance the quality of worship by nurturing and equipping the body of Christ in the areas of Worship and Music. Its Community Music (CM) arm seeks to provide music education in a Christian environment, use music for outreach and to address social concerns, and use music to connect people across generations / backgrounds / culture / language.
We have a vacancy for Piano Instructor.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Teach piano (individual or group lessons):
- Piano pieces and scales.
- Music theory.
- Sight-reading.
- Aural.
- Review, and to help and prepare piano students taking ABRSM exams.
- Plan teaching curriculum for group lessons (children or adults).
2. Provide piano accompaniment for:
- MSM vocal students taking ABRSM examinations.
- MSM violin students taking ABRSM examinations.
- MSM violin and vocal students and MSM teachers in school performances and events.
- The Methodist Festival Choir.
3. Administrative work, including but not limited to:
- Taking minutes during the staff / committee meetings.
- Management of the MSM General Music YouTube Channel.
- Programme compilation for student concert and performance lab.
- Assist in transcribing and arranging music scores.
- Special projects (school concert).
- Organising teacher development workshops.
4. Video taking and uploading for online exams:
- Taking video and uploading the videos for students’ online exam.
5. Library duties:
- Labelling of library books
- Rearranging library books.
- Mending torn pages.
Job Requirements
- Minimum Degree in Music from an established institution or university with at least 5 years of relevant working experience.
- Experience in teaching and pedagogical experience such as curriculum development, lesson planning and delivery. Preferably holder of an ATCL or DipABRSM piano examination certificate or equivalent.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills are required to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Experience in publicity and organising event.
- Have good project management and problem-solving skills to analyse issues and recommend solutions.
- Able to work well independently and under tight timelines.
- Proficient in MS Office Application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher).
