About Migrant Workers Centre (MWC)
Set up in 2009, the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) is a bipartite initiative of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF). The MWC is a non-government organisation whose mission is to champion fair employment practices and the well-being of migrant workers in Singapore.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to migrant workers referred by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in order to meet their needs for temporary housing and food while MOM resolves their cases.
- Meet the needs of distressed migrant workers by providing for temporary shelter, sustenance or any other urgent needs while their grievances are resolved through the statutory recovery processes.
- Provide advice and case representation services to aggrieved migrant workers.
- Champion the migrant worker cause through public advocacy.
- Build good relationships with stakeholders such as MOM, other government agency partners and other migrant NGOs.
- Assess claims made by migrant workers, provide the necessary advice and action, as well as escalate legitimate claims cases to the authorities for conciliation and enforcement.
- Monitor progress of cases till closure (i.e. point of repatriation, or transfer of employer) and ensure proper documentation.
- Assess requests involving migrant workers and make recommendations to the MWC’s management and trustees.
- Support MWC in other areas when the need arises.
- Other additional projects as assigned
Requirements:
- Degree in any discipline
- Good if have at least 2 to 3 years of relevant experience
- Able to carry out assigned tasks independently
- Passionate in pursuing advocacy work related to Migrant Workers and to always maintain a positive and professional outlook
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in at least one of the migrant worker languages
- Able to work in a high-paced environment and support other core functions within the organization
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Willing and able to respond to urgent incidents at irregular hours
- A valid class 3 driving license would be preferred
