Job Description
The Department of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is seeking candidates to apply for the role of Senior Research Fellow within its Cardiovascular-Metabolic Translational Research Programme.
The selected candidate will be offered a contract position for a duration of one to two years, with an opportunity for renewal based on performance and funding availability.
Purpose of the post
The Senior Research Fellow (SRF) will work closely with the Principal Investigator (Professor Shu Ye) to engage in research into molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases, prepare impactful papers for publication in top-tier scientific journals; and obtain competitive funding for the research programme.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Senior Research Fellow will be able to:
- conduct research in Cardiovascular-Metabolic Translational Research Programme (CVMD) under the supervision the Principal Investigator Professor Shu Ye to investigate the influences of genetic variants on cardiovascular diseases and the underlying mechanisms, using a variety of molecular biology, cell biology, and histological techniques and animal models;
- develop and implement research projects, including study design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation;
- publish research findings in high impact peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences and seminars;
- contribute to the development of grant proposals to secure funding for research projects;
- assist in the supervision and mentorship of honor and graduate students involved in research activities;
- contribute to the dissemination of research findings to the broader community through outreach activities, including public lectures or community engagement initiatives;
- participate in departmental meetings, research seminars, and other academic activities to contribute to the scholarly environment of CVMD.
- To participate in general laboratory activities related to the research and carry out allocated duties for the laboratory.
Qualifications
The applicant should have:
- a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Biomedical Research or a related field from an accredited institution;
- a strong background and expertise in/or biomedical health-related research, preferably in cardiovascular research;
- a track record of scholarly productivity, including publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals;
- experience in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies;
- ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment;
- excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- prior experience in grant writing (securing external funding is an advantage);
- Experience in leading a research team of research students and research assistants.
