Position Responsibilities:

Role-Specific Responsibilities

The curriculum and instruction coordinators will play a leading role with providing teachers, PLCs, and PLC coaches advice and support on curriculum and pedagogical practice. The curriculum and instruction coordinator is responsible for supporting all facets of academic programming at SAS through the lens of equity and inclusion. In addition, they are responsible for supporting school leaders and PLC Coaches on the use of quality instructional practices.

The curriculum and instruction coordinator will serve as a liaison between the office of learning and division leadership to ensure alignment and coordination of the development, implementation, and monitoring of our academic programs in support of SAS2027. This role will ensure that this important work is embedded within the divisions and closely aligned to the work of the divisions. The curriculum and instruction coordinator works with PLC coaches and PLCs, provides professional development to faculty, works closely with the instructional assistant coordinator to provide professional development to instructional assistants, and helps support PLC coaches provide high-quality coaching to teachers.

  • As directed by the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, the curriculum and instruction coordinator will use a lens of inclusive, equitable, culturally responsive practices to:
    • Support the implementation of the SAS strategic plan;
    • Lead curriculum review processes from research through implementation;
    • Facilitate curriculum and interdisciplinary development and student assessment-related systems;
    • Support the development of PLC coaches to act in their capacity as instructional leaders;
    • Support school leaders in their capacity as instructional leaders and deepen their ability to lead PLC coaches;
    • Support PLCs to embed competencies and learning progressions within curriculum units;
    • Meet with teacher leaders and/or PLCs to provide support as they plan units, examine assessments and student data, and provide feedback on instruction and curriculum design;
    • Use assessment and feedback data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices;
    • Conduct classroom walkthroughs to provide observational data on implementation of curricular programs;
    • Implement effective internal assessment and feedback systems to monitor implementation of curricular programs;
    • Support the development and implementation of a personalized learning platform;
    • Develop and lead instructional professional development sessions;
    • Engage families as partners in their children’s education;
    • Facilitate and develop positive and effective communication and relationships with the various constituents of the community including parents, faculty, division leadership, and central administration;
    • Participate in professional development activities, exploring educational research; and
    • Complete other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning.

Position Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in Education or a relevant field preferred
  • At least 5 years of successful teacher leadership and/or school instructional coaching experience preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of early learning, elementary, middle or high school curriculum and instructional practices
  • Proven record of having successfully led in a faculty leadership capacity preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, and communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of research-proven pedagogical practices, including professional learning communities (PLCs), response to intervention, personalized learning, and standards-based assessment/grading/reporting
  • Knowledge and experience in research-proven instructional strategies
  • Technology expertise, with a strong understanding of the role of technology in 21st century learning environments
  • Experience leading major school initiatives from conception to completion
  • Ability to motivate and collaborate with other teachers and leadership team members
  • Results-oriented, with demonstrated skill in using data to inform and improve student learning and school programs
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and creative
  • Ability to give, receive, and grow and learn through feedback is essential

Working Requirements:

  • Sponsoring and/or coaching after-school activities are part of the responsibility of the professional educator. Therefore, faculty shall be available to coach and/or sponsor an athletic team or other extracurricular activity. Each faculty member is expected to do a minimum of one Category 1 activity or sport per year.
  • Required attendance at school professional learning days
  • Chaperone and participate in evening and/or weekend school activities each year, as assigned (including “Back-to-School Night”).
