The podiatrist assistant is an integral part of the podiatry unit and perform various basic podiatry care and podiatry treatment I procedures in order to meet the needs of patients under supervision. These include diabetic foot screening, basic foot
care, community outreach and assisting the podiatrists in their roles and responsibilities.
As a Podiatrist Assistant, job scope will perform clinical care and direct patient management under the supervision of the podiatrists.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
A. Clinical Competencies & duties
- In podiatry services, the Podiatrist Assistant will function alongside podiatrists t provide services to the patients. The Podiatrist Assistant can perform certain procedures under supervision.
- Assists podiatrists in day-to-day operations, in patients, outpatients and in the community
- Assists podiatrists in clinic operations, manufacture, and modification of products for dispensation to patients
- Assist podiatrists in nail surgery procedures in outpatients
- Assist in transfer of patients to treatment couch and escorting patients in and out of treatment room.
B. Administrative duties:
- Assist podiatrists in patient appointment scheduling and re-scheduling.
- Maintain and ensure general tidiness and cleanliness of all treatment rooms and plaster rooms, as well as all equipment and devices.
- Manage enquiries from public and internal staff.
- Engage in relevant continuing education and training on regular basis to maintain his / her competency.
- Participate in corporate activities and events.
- Adhere to all policies of the department in upholding quality service in patient care.
- Participate in departmental process and quality improvement efforts (E.g. kaizen projects, 5S etc)
- Support podiatrists in specific department al portfolios (E.g.: equipment and instrument management, continuing education, 5S champion, Kaizen champions, JCl compliance etc).
- Work as an effective team player within the department and also outside the department.
- Embrace continuous improvements as our way of life by improving and refining work performance on a daily basis.
- Assist HOD in administrative duties when assigned.
- Undertake all duties when assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum GCE 'N', '0' Levels, ITE or equivalent and I or
- Skills in word processing software (E. g. : Microsoft word)
- Related on the job-training by the hospital
PROFESSIONAL LICENCE
- Lifting of patients
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Risk of pricks from needles and cuts from sharps
