The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Language of Instruction Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing innovative enrichment programs tailored to the unique needs of gifted and talented students at GESS. This role aims to enhance the educational experience by offering diverse learning opportunities beyond the standard curriculum, fostering a stimulating environment where students are encouraged to think critically, creatively, and independently.

The Coordinator will ensure these programs provide specialised support, activities, and competitions that inspire students to challenge conventional norms and develop unique solutions to complex problems. By collaborating closely with school leadership, faculty, and external partners, the Coordinator will advance the school's vision of nurturing excellence in STEM education and language mastery. This includes engaging students in design thinking to actively address real-world issues and craft innovative solutions, empowering them to become forward-thinking leaders in a rapidly evolving world.


Key Accountabilities

Program Development and Management

· Lead the development and implementation of the STEM and Language of Instruction Enrichment Program in alignment with the GESS Leadership Standards.

· Create and maintain an innovative and comprehensive enrichment curriculum that integrates STEM and language instruction across core subjects and after-school learning opportunities.

· Ensure the program includes clear entrance criteria, assessment, and reporting practices, fostering innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills for students from upper primary to high school.

· Develop individualised educational plans for gifted and talented students in close collaboration with STEM subject teachers.

· Collaborate with the Innovation Coordinator to create specific STEM lunch and after-school opportunities, including mentoring and competition preparation.

· Position GESS as an active participant in a range of STEM competitions suitable for gifted and talented students, promoting their involvement and success.


Community Partnership and Engagement

· Collaborate with Directors, middle management, the Innovation Coordinator, and other faculty to support the development, community involvement, and promotion of the enrichment program.

· Coordinate STEM activities and events that enrich learning opportunities, such as field trips, guest speakers, workshops, and presentations for gifted and talented students.

· Establish and leverage partnerships with businesses, industries, and higher education institutions in Singapore and the broader region to enhance program visibility and engagement.

· Promote the program internally and externally through effective communication channels, showcasing projects and celebrating community achievements.


Student Development

· Lead a team to ensure a robust curriculum, assessment, core, and after-school learning opportunities for gifted and talented students, including active participation in competitions.

· Monitor and analyse assessment data to track the progress and learning of gifted and talented students.

· Teach and facilitate STEM lessons specifically designed for gifted and talented students, promoting active engagement with real-world issues.

· Mentor and guide students, fostering their growth as innovative thinkers and problem solvers.


Operational, Monitoring and Evaluation

· Develop metrics to measure the success and impact of the enrichment programs, regularly assessing and reporting on progress and outcomes.

· Manage the program budget in accordance with GESS's policies and procedures, ensuring efficient use of resources.


Professional Development and Training

· Provide training and resources for parents, staff, and students to enhance their understanding and involvement in the enrichment programs, with a focus on innovative approaches such as design thinking.


Event Coordination

· Plan and lead local and international trips that support student development in STEM and innovation.

· Organise events to showcase student creativity and innovation, fostering a culture of excellence and community engagement.


Additional responsibilities

· All other responsibilities and tasks as deemed appropriate by SLT and the Line Manager.


Knowledge and Experience

· Recognised teaching qualification (minimum B.Ed or PGCE equivalent).

· Mastery of STEM subjects and up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies.

· Expertise in STEM curriculum design and interdisciplinary project development.

· Proficiency with educational technology (e.g., coding, robotics, 3D printing) for classroom integration.

· Familiarity with inquiry-based and project-based learning to promote hands-on exploration.

· Experience in leading STEM initiatives, clubs or extension for gifted and talented programmes (e.g., robotics, science fairs, mathematics, etc).

· Knowledge of STEM career pathways and industry trends to inspire students.

· Collaboration with external partners (e.g., universities, industries) to enrich the program.


Technical and Soft Skills

· Proficiency in Coding and Programming Languages (e.g., Python, Scratch, Java) for classroom instruction.

· Experience with Robotics Platforms (e.g., LEGO Mindstorms, VEX Robotics) and the ability to guide students in building and programming robots.

· 3D Design and Printing Skills using tools like Tinkercad, Fusion 360, or AutoCAD.

· Familiarity with Digital Tools for Data Analysis and Simulation, such as Excel, GeoGebra, or science-specific software (e.g., MATLAB, PhET simulations).

· Expertise in Using Educational Technology Platforms, like Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, or STEM-specific tools (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi).

· Competence with Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies for immersive STEM learning experiences.

· Knowledge of Online STEM Resources and Open-Source Platforms for sharing projects and engaging students in collaborative tasks (e.g., GitHub, Khan Academy, Code.org).
