A newspaper for the local Malay community, Berita Harian was established on July 1, 1957. It presents news and issues from home, the region and the world, featuring a wide spectrum of topics from sports to politics and religion. Other highlights include Malay culture and tradition, arts and heritage, family, hobbies and leisure. Berita Harian also provides a platform for the Malay community to voice their views on issues that concern them. It is a paper that speaks with authority and understands the needs of the Malay community.
As a Journalist, you are expected to gather facts and information through research and interviews, and present the information in a clear, concise and interesting way on BH’s multimedia platforms, encompassing print, website and social media. The content you produce must also be able to be presented through video, infographics and articles suited for the digital platform. You may be expected to present or do voice overs in the videos produced.
You are also expected to assist the Editor in editorial projects across BH’s multimedia platforms and produce clean copies for print, as well as other digital platforms.
Job Requirements
- Degree from a recognised university with at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in journalism and/or content creation
- Effectively bilingual in Malay and English, with good written and spoken skills
- Possess an inquisitive mind with a nose for news;
- Able to write clean copies for print
- Strong interest in social and online media content;
- Ability to initiate, plan and produce video content.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro or equivalent software.
- Able to work under pressure and adapt to irregular working hours;
- Must be driven, independent, reliable and highly adaptable to changes.
- Manage BH website, microsites and app-related matters
- Provide data-driven insights and solutions that will bolster BH’s online engagement.
- Handle daily operations for social media when needed
