Role Description:


We are looking for a solid & experience regional legal counsels to join our team. The successful candidate plays a crucial role in ensuring that the company operates within the bounds of the law and effectively manages legal risks in a complex and dynamic business environment. In this role, the legal counsel will safeguard our reputation by guaranteeing that the company strictly follows law guidelines and give legal advice to key stakeholders across the business about all relevant issues. The successful candidate will be a well-organized, self-driven, team player, preferably with experience and background with food & beverages, retail and business development.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Data Privacy & Protection: Manage and address data privacy issues to ensure successful compliance with company policies and relevant laws. Oversee and manage data access and data subject requests across business functions. Implement data governance policies and initiatives, including data mapping, data quality, and data sharing.
  • Legal Advisory Services: Providing legal advice and guidance to the company on various matters, including commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, employment law, intellectual property, and dispute resolution
  • Contract Drafting and Review: Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements relevant to the company's operations in SEA. This includes contracts with customers, suppliers, partners, and employees
  • Corporate Governance and Compliance: Assisting the company with corporate governance matters, such as board meetings, shareholder agreements, and compliance with corporate laws and regulations in SEA.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations in SEA, including industry-specific regulations and standards. This involves staying updated on changes in legislation and advising the company on how to remain compliant
  • Intellectual Property Protection: Advising on and managing the company's intellectual property rights in SEA, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, and trade secrets. This may involve filing for registrations, enforcing IP rights, and defending against infringement claims
  • Dispute Resolution: Handling legal disputes that may arise in SEA, whether they involve other businesses, customers, employees, or regulatory bodies. This can include negotiating settlements, representing the company in court proceedings, or engaging in alternative dispute resolution methods
  • Employment Law: Providing guidance on employment matters, including employment contracts, workplace policies, termination issues, and compliance with employment laws and regulations in SEA.
  • Commercial Transactions: Assisting with mergers, acquisitions, investments, and other commercial transactions in SEA. This involves conducting legal due diligence, negotiating terms, and drafting transaction documents. Knowledge of IP/licensing, contract/corporate law, advertising regulations, media & broadcast regulations
  • Government Relations: Building relationships with government agencies and regulators in SEA to stay informed about regulatory developments and to advocate for the company's interests
  • Risk Management: Identifying legal risks facing the company in SEA and developing strategies to mitigate those risks. This may involve conducting risk assessments, implementing compliance programs, and providing training to employees on legal matters

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Law Degree from an established and reputable university is preferred
  • Solid general legal background, with 6-8 years of relevant commercial legal and privacy experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house for a multinational organization
  • Desire to work as a partner to the business with an aptitude to finding pragmatic solutions to challenges within the privacy field
  • Regional experience in supporting the South East Asian regions other than local region
  • Commercially-savvy and have a practical approach to the practice of law
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to details, and an ability to work well under pressure
  • Excellent self-management skill with minimal supervision and manage time effectively and judiciously to meet deadlines, recognizing priorities, and deal effectively with the competing interests of different stakeholders/departments, and able to assess and balance legal risks against business interest
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to think outside of the box to solve complex problems
  • Business oriented commercial mindset with a flexible, practical problem-solving approach
