Dangerous Goods Specialist (Assistant Manager /Manager)

We are looking for a self-driven and experienced Dangerous Goods Specialist (Assistant Manager /Manager) for one of our global shipping clients. The incumbent will be vital in overseeing and upholding the group’s global policies, procedures, and guidelines for dangerous goods. They will ensure adherence to international and legal standards while fostering business development in this key sector.

The ideal candidate preferably should possess a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience, possess excellent problem-solving skills, and have a proven track record in working in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities:

· Drive Dangerous Cargo Acceptance with a Growth Mindset: Spearhead initiatives to enhance Dangerous Cargo Acceptance across various regions. Analyze current performance metrics and work collaboratively with commercial organization in various countries to increase acceptance rates, while ensuring safety and compliance. Act as a business enabler by helping commercial teams accommodate customer requests, with a balanced focus on growth and safety.

· Establish and enforce policies: Create, define, and enforce the Group’s dangerous goods (DG) policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring global compliance with IMDG Code, international standards, and statutory requirements.

· Manage acceptance criteria: Possess a strong understanding of planning and stowage to establish criteria for DG acceptance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.

· Enhance DG acceptance: Act as a catalyst for increasing Dangerous Goods acceptance by streamlining processes, increasing volumes, and ensuring adherence to safety standards.

· Identify underperformance: Identify underperforming agencies and regions, conducting root cause analysis, and providing targeted training on booking processes and documentation.

· Stakeholder collaboration: Manage and partner stakeholders of various countries to strategize and facilitate increased Dangerous Goods cargo bookings, customizing solutions to meet regional contexts.

· Incident management: Oversee incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

· Team management: Manage global team workload, staff engagement, and performance evaluations, ensuring team alignment with organizational objectives.


Requirements:

· Degree in Maritime/Logistics/Supply Chain Studies or a related field.

· Proficiency in the IMDG Code and a thorough understanding of stowage planning, safety standards, and dangerous goods transportation requirements.

· Minimum 3 years’ experience working as DG Desk Specialist, or Liner Shipping, or in similar capacity.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· A proactive and assertive approach with the capacity to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced organization.

· Must be able to work well as part of a team and independently.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
