Introduction to The Centre for Precision Fermentation and Sustainability:
The Centre for Precision Fermentation and Sustainability (PreFerS) is a research program hosted by the Illinois Advanced Research Center at Singapore Ltd. (Illinois ARCS). The program aims to develop advanced fundamental sciences and technologies to implement fermentation-based production of foods and food ingredients, and also to enhance food security and sustainability in Singapore, particularly addressing the micronutrient food insecurity through precision fermentation.
About this Role
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and hard-working researcher with a passion for synthetic biology and precision fermentation to lead efforts in developing a yeast-based protein customization and production platform.
Key Responsibilities
· Engineer yeast ( e.g. S. cerevisiae, Pichia pastoris and Yarrowia lipolytica) to produce high-value ingredients and functional proteins.
· Work in an innovative, high-spirited and dynamic environment and will actively participate in the design and execution of R&D projects, acquiring cutting edge research and analytical skills, as well as contributing to the translation of scientific findings.
· Supervise and mentor the work of research engineers.
Qualifications
· PhD degree in Life Sciences, Biochemistry or a related discipline.
· Proven research productivity with an excellent publication record and first-authored papers
· Proficiency in in standard molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology techniques. Prior experience working with yeast or fungi will be an advantage.
· Highly motivated and self-driven with an ability to drive projects independently
· Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team; critical thinking and strong attention to detail; ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task; excellent communication, documentation and organization skills.
