Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee, manage, and optimize database servers, with a focus on both MS SQL and Oracle databases. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration, automation of tasks, and experience with cloud databases, specifically Azure and AWS RDS. The role involves ensuring optimal database performance, managing user accounts, and performing backup and disaster recovery operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Monitoring and Management:
Monitor database storage, space utilization, table extents, and growth.
Alert and report potential performance issues or capacity bottlenecks, providing recommendations for improvement.
User Account and Access Management:
Setup and manage user accounts, access rights, privileges, roles, and profiles.
Backup and Recovery:
Plan and execute database backup and recovery processes.
Conduct an annual backup and restore exercise for databases backed up more than six (6) months ago.
Log and Alert Review:
Review daily logs, database alerts, database export logs, and scheduled job logs.
Database Maintenance:
Schedule and perform regular database housekeeping and maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance.
Manage scripts and database object deployments.
Performance Optimization:
Propose and implement database reorganizations and upgrades to enhance system throughput.
Perform fault and performance monitoring, responding to alerts with first-level troubleshooting when required.
Patch Management:
Manage database patching processes.
Collaboration and Issue Resolution:
Work with internal teams and external suppliers to identify and resolve database-related issues.
Documentation:
Maintain and update database server administration guides and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Disaster Recovery:
Perform annual database disaster recovery tests on selected databases as determined by the Customer.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
- At least five (5) years of experience in MS SQL administration.
- At least three (3) years of experience in Oracle Database administration.
- Minimum of three (3) years of exposure to Azure and AWS RDS databases.
Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): SQL Database Administration.
- Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional (OCP).
Preferred Skills:
- Strong understanding of database performance tuning and optimization.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to respond to database alerts and perform troubleshooting.
- Experience with database automation and scripting.
- Knowledge of cloud database solutions and services on Azure and AWS.
