Job Role
- Senior Design Lead is responsible for managing and mentoring a team of design managers, BIM coordinators, BIM managers, BIM modelers, as well as overseeing the design and shop drawing process from start to finish.
- Senior Design Lead is required to attend regular meetings with the Japanese parent company, therefore proficiency and knowledge of both Japanese and English languages as well as excellent presentation skills is essential.
- Senior Design Lead collaborates with other departments, such as engineering, QS, and marketing, to ensure that the design team’s work is aligned with the company’s overall strategy.
- Senior Design Lead also works closely with clients to understand their needs and ensure that the final product meets their expectations under design-build projects.
- In addition to managing and mentoring design managers, shop drawing team members, Senior Design Lead also create high-level designs.
- Senior Design Lead has enough knowledge for the design and/or shop drawing team related to the A1 contractor’s project including but not limited to such as Hospital, Semi-Conductor factory, Commercial building, mixed develop project.
- The candidate also assesses compliance with the relevant regulatory and legislative requirements.
- The candidate is a team player who possesses strong analytical, project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- The candidate is also able to interact and communicate with internal and external stakeholders effectively and has strong project management and planning skills.
- The candidate is meticulous and highly detail-orientated and possesses strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to facilitate stakeholder management and works on-site.
Job Description
- Contribute strategic insight, experience, and expertise to the project management and construction team through his/her skills and knowledge of various kind of construction and execution to set up the project for success.
- Ensure that progress and key project issues are assessed, managed, and reported to the board of directors from the Singapore Regional Group of Companies as well as the parent company in Japan on a regular and timely basis.
- Manage and oversee the project team including external project managers, design consultants, and contractors to meet their deliverables, to an adequate standard, on time, and not compromise the project specifications. Be responsible for tracking, recording, and managing the progress and quality of the construction along with handover and closeout deliverables.
- Proactively ensure all commercial, contractual, and procurement activities on the projects are managed in a timely and transparent manner and avoid any cost and time risk to the Projects. Closely monitor, manage, and report on project budgets.
- Identify all statutory approvals needed and thereafter manage and achieve as scheduled to avoid any delay to the projects. Ensure the company's EHS policies and project-specific plans are proactively communicated and consistently enforced. Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks throughout all phases of the project.
- Deploy the necessary resources that are adequate in quantity and skilled in their respective subject matter areas. Analyse project and resource requirements to create labour and machining schedules.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with all project stakeholders – upstream and downstream on relevant topics.
- Manage project documentation by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) standards.
- Other project management duties assigned.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Architecture, or related Engineering field
- More than 20 years of design experience with general contractors. Added advantage to the candidate with experience working with a Japanese contractor firm.
- The Senior Design Lead should possess expertise in designing and developing a series of details of any kind of building.
- Some shareholders and board members of the company are based in Japan, so Japanese language proficiency at level N1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is a minimum requirement to conduct business, as well as prepare reports and presentations that may be required by the company's management, board, or stakeholders. Similar English skills and knowledge are preferred.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate smoothly with construction team members and consultants.
- Excellent leadership and people skills to bring together people from diverse backgrounds.
