Site Selection and Acquisitions Department
New Site Development (NSD) evaluates new sites and coordinates pre-construction activities in line with corporate goals working hand in hand with the Construction team to come up with a vertically integrated design and ensures new and existing standards and designs are executed effectively. The team collaborates with Sales, Site Selection and Acquisitions, Design & Engineering, Construction, Operations, Legal, Finance and the regional Executive Leadership Team. Position Overview
Vantage is looking for a Connectivity (data center fiber telecommunications infrastructure) Director to drive the physical connection of telecommunication providers to both new and existing data center campuses, in line with changing customer demands. Run increasing requirements for campus points of entry (POE), distances to, and associated interconnectivity between, existing telco hubs, self-investment both on and off site/campus. This position will be responsible for all activities required to prove connectivity feasibility of new sites and thereafter manage all activities required to facilitate the execution of connectivity in line with the customers’ exacting demands. In addition, the role entails the creation and implementation of all strategies regarding connectivity across the Vantage portfolio.
Constant communication with Site Selection and Acquisitions, Construction, Design & Engineering, Operations, and Sales teams, subject matter experts, and the wider APAC Executive Leadership Team will be required to keep pace with Vantage’s strategic land acquisition goals, including enhancing Vantage’s product and service offering wherever possible. Collaboration and integration in the sales lifecycle process including client interface is integral to the role as well.
Essential Job Functions
- Lead feasibility (developing connectivity strategy) through contract execution and delivery (e.g., lit fiber).
- Contribute to the design, schedule and CAPEX estimates during pre-construction phases, and assist with relevant contract negotiations.
- Brief and transition ownership of fiber telecommunications infrastructure to VDC Construction Managers at the appropriate time for execution.
- Develop and maintain a global connectivity strategy, including productization of connectivity, aligned with the management team's expectations and direction.
- Provide thought leadership and team management, ensuring accountability for team results across all connectivity projects, assignments, and initiatives, including budget and schedule management, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay current with new technologies, products, and innovative opportunities both within and outside the data center industry to enhance future deliveries.
Duties
- Ensure Vantage has sites that meet customer network requirements, including KMZ creation and management in existing and new markets.
- Conduct long-haul evaluations and develop schedules with cost certainty for the last mile.
- Acquire dark fiber for facilities to ensure all customers can activate services from day one.
- Negotiate carrier agreements to reduce costs while ensuring dark fiber availability on-premises from day one.
- Support D&E with campus and building designs for internal and external conduit routing, including MMR/POE layout and customer fit-outs
- In conjunction with VDC commercial teams and third-party consultants, qualify consultants, vendors, and contractors
- Provide technical support as needed, including preparing technical materials for presentations to prospective customers and supporting marketing efforts to outline connectivity strategies.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in large-scale connectivity delivery.
- Solid understanding of data center ecosystems and a network of key providers, with a recognized degree in computer science or equivalent preferred.
- Project management experience, with the ability to conduct full feasibility studies.
- Knowledge of customer requirements, business drivers, financials, and relevant legislative requirements.
- Strong IT skills, with the ability to use multiple communication tools and software packages.
- Demonstrated strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills at all organizational levels and with third parties, such as suppliers.
- Flexible, adaptable, and self-directed; able to work in various circumstances, including remotely, while traveling, across multiple time zones, cross-functionally, and by project.
- Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and prioritize work efforts with minimal supervision.
