Legal Counsel (Banking)

Role Summary:

We are looking for a lawyer of at least 7 to 8 years' post-qualifications experience (PQE) to advise the organisation on banking and finance transactions.


Responsibilities

a. influencing the strategic development and structuring of banking and finance transactions, including cross-border lending and taking of security;

b. providing legally sound and commercially oriented advice to business units across various jurisdictions within the group, including advising on the operational aspects of banking and finance structures;

c. reviewing and advising on the legal impact of banking and finance documentation, including for bilateral facilities, ISDA facilities, trade facilities and syndicated facilities for business units across various jurisdictions within group with a view to minimising risk and exposure for these business units.

d. where the appointment of an external law firm is needed, provide appropriate instructions on the relevant transaction and supervise the performance of services by the external law firms; and

e. monitor and evaluate the delivery of services by the external law firms to ensure the organisation gets the best value for the fees paid.


Requirements

a. be a qualified advocate and/or solicitor or barrister, preferably in a common law jurisdiction;

b. have at least 7 to 8 years' PQE dealing with banking and finance transactions;

c. be familiar with banking products terms and conditions, LMA and APLMA documentation, and market standards;

d. be proficient in English (verbal and written), while possession of a working knowledge of Chinese / Mandarin and Bahasa Melayu will be viewed as an added advantage;

e. be detail-oriented and organised;

f. possess sound analytical skills, good verbal and written communications skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel;

g. be able to prioritise your work and perform under pressure with minimal supervision;

h. be willing to contribute know-how and be a pro-active complementary team player; and

i. have integrity, be discreet and be able to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.
