Job Description
- Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing and production usage
- Performs Database performance monitoring and tuning
- Closely monitor performance, identify problems and implement solutions
- Ensure the database is running at optimum speed and efficiency
- Maintain database backup and recovery environment
- Respond quickly to refresh data, verify implementation of correct backup strategy
- Develop recovery processes to support recovery from loss of data
- Monitor file system space and database allocation to improve efficiency in a standardized environment
- Verify efficient use of disk storage to reclaim dead space and optimize space allocation to avoid out-of-space conditions
- Provides application support to resolve problems
- Install latest versions of the Oracle RDBMS and its tools and any other tools that access the Oracle database
- Provide assistance in database design as needed and assist in research and recommendation
- Finetune optimal design criteria, publish standards and work with development staff
- Organize database table spaces, tables, and indexes to maximize productivity and improve performance.
- Ensure standardization of systems and methods to support techniques
- Adherence to formal processes, change control, best practices and maintain quality practices
- Administers all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages and procedures
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- At least 8 years experiences in customizing solutions for Oracle DBA
- Experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA is desirable
- Experience with highly used large data warehouse environments
- Knowledge in logical and physical database design
- Understanding and experience with Oracle RMAN and Flashback technologies
- Integrate third party backup agents with RMAN.
- Experienced with the following Oracle technologies: RAC, ASM, RMAN, Data Guard and Data Pump
- Extensive knowledge of SQL, triggers and PL/SQL, including programming and ways to optimize SQL code
- Experienced with cross-platform networking environment
Utilises UNIX shell scripting languages C shell, KSH, Perl and related command line user interface - Ability to monitor and tune databases to meet application needs
- Experienced in implementation and maintaining database security
- Creation and maintenance of users, roles and assignment of privileges
- Capable in working well with customers of varying levels of technical expertise in complex environments
- Candidate must be a team player and have good communication skills
- Strong diagnostic and problem solving abilities
- Possess a pro-active attitude and customers oriented
