We work collaboratively with public sector and industry partners to translate scientific discoveries arising from Singapore's biomedical and clinical sciences R&D into innovative healthcare solutions, with a focus on Asian-prevalent diseases.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced subject matter expert in structural biology to lead and drive all aspects of protein science and related disciplines. The successful candidate will oversee protein science operations, including protein expression, purification, characterization (biophysical), and structural biology efforts, to support our drug discovery and development programs. This role demands a deep understanding of protein biochemistry and structural biology, and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other departments, including Discovery Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, to drive scientific innovation and therapeutic advancements.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management:
- Lead, train and mentor a team of scientists in protein science, structural biology, and related disciplines.
- Develop and implement strategic goals for the Protein Science and Structural Biology Group to advance EDDC's portfolio and platforms.
- Manage resources and timelines to ensure the successful execution of projects.
Protein Science & Structural Biology:
- Oversee all aspects of protein expression, purification, and characterization, ensuring high-quality and reproducible results.
- Drive structural biology activities, including X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), and NMR spectroscopy, to elucidate protein structures and support drug discovery.
- Establish workflows for biophysical techniques to analyze molecular interactions and study complex formation.
- Collaborate with biologists and medicinal chemists to integrate structural data into drug design and optimization.
- Stay current with advancements in protein science and structural biology technologies and apply them to enhance technical capabilities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Collaborate with other functional groups to ensure alignment of protein science efforts with broader drug discovery and development strategies. Assert cross functional influence by offering technical expertise during scientific discussions.
- Identify, evaluate and implement new technologies, methodologies, and approaches to improve the efficiency and impact of protein science and structural biology efforts.
- Partner with external academic and industry collaborators to advance research initiatives and bring in new technologies.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in protein science and structural biology, with a proven track record of leading successful research programs.
- Strong expertise in protein expression, purification, and structural biology techniques such as X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, and NMR.
- Experience in leading and managing a multidisciplinary team of scientists.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Proven track record of contributing to drug discovery and development projects.
- Experience with automation and high-throughput protein production is a plus.
