The Storage Management and Security Analyst will be responsible for managing and maintaining storage systems, ensuring optimal performance, capacity planning, and participating in various storage-related projects. The role includes providing support for DASD mapping, space management, and maintaining critical systems such as DFSMS, DFHSM, VTS PTP, and EMC/BCM mirroring. This specialist will also manage network configurations, implement system changes, monitor computer systems, and ensure overall system integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform DASD mapping and ensure proper mapping to LPAR, users, and datasets.
- Manage DASD space, clean up unused/expired datasets, and allocate storage as needed.
- Oversee DFSMS routine codes and filter lists; define, update, verify, and activate.
- Monitor and tune the VTS PTP threshold; conduct health checks and ensure proper functionality.
- Perform DFHSM maintenance, including recalls, migrations, and backups.
- Manage EMC and BCM mirroring, device pairing, and ensure SRDF, Time Finder, and SNAP are functioning.
- Perform catalog maintenance using IDCAMS/T-REX software and ensure sufficient disk space for all SMS groups.
- Apply PTFs or fixes when required.
- Generate monthly capacity reports, such as VTS stats, for management.
- Assist in the implementation of storage solutions, including VTS B20, PTP, and DFSMS.
- Assist in storage migrations, such as CA-1 to DFRMM, STK Silo to VTS, and from EMC SRDF to IBM GPDS/XRC/PPRC.
- Participate in the installation and upgrade of tape drives (3380, 3490/E) and other storage platforms.
- Ensure VTAM/NCP/TCPIP/OSA system network configuration is well-structured and operational.
- Coordinate network connectivity for users and ensure timely responses to connectivity issues.
- Lead system change implementations and ensure minimal system disruption, compliance with operations requirements, and that new systems coexist seamlessly with existing processes.
- Coordinate job and process failure recovery with external parties (e.g., IBM, vendors) and follow up on corrective actions.
- Monitor and maintain third-party software operations, escalating issues and ensuring smooth operation and backup.
- Monitor the operation of computer resources, including DASD, VTS, central storage, and paging datasets.
- Conduct capacity planning using tools such as DCOLLECT, SAS, and RMF to prevent performance bottlenecks.
- Coordinate system integrity, ensuring protection of datasets and profiles from unauthorized access.
- Maintain and test system contingency plans.
- Ensure compliance with auditors' recommendations and report discrepancies to management.
- Manage the installation and maintenance of new third-party products, ensuring proper testing, implementation, and training for end users.
Qualifications:
- Strong experience with storage systems such as DASD, DFSMS, DFHSM, EMC, VTS, and SRDF.
- Proficient in capacity planning, catalog maintenance, and system integrity.
- Hands-on experience with VTAM, TCPIP, NCP, and OSA configurations.
- Experience coordinating large-scale projects involving storage and system changes.
- Knowledge of recovery procedures, third-party software management, and troubleshooting.
