Business Insider Asia Pte. Ltd.

Business Insider Asia Pte. Ltd. company logo

Business Insider’s Singapore bureau is hiring a junior reporter who is self-starting, passionate about business news, and has a knack for telling stories in a relatable way. This is a full-time, six-month contract role based in Singapore, starting January 2025.

Business Insider is for people who are driven, optimistic and always looking forward. Our mission is to inspire action through thought-provoking stories. We tell our audience what they want and need to know to improve their lives and the world with storytelling that is accessible, smart, sometimes unexpected, and always helpful. Our team members embody and uphold Business Insider’s three core values: we are all one team, we are effective, and we strive to get better every day.

The Team & Role:

Business Insider’s Singapore bureau is a small team that thrives on jumping on the biggest news of the day, pivoting quickly, and being highly selective with angles and news framing choices.

As a jr. reporter, you will be responsible for covering some of the biggest business stories of the day. You will cover a broad range of stories on our business vertical, including tech, finance, and retail. We’ll ask you to pay close attention to major players like OpenAI, Tesla, Amazon, Google, and Facebook.

You’ll be working on various story formats, including news hits in 300 words, interviews with analysts and experts, and features with strong attention to narrative storytelling. Your deadlines will range from 10 minutes for breaking news to several days for features.

You can expect to publish at least one story a day. You might also be asked to support senior-level reporters with research and reporting. The news you’ll cover daily is global, ranging from the US and China to Ukraine and Israel.

This role reports to the deputy bureau chief in the Singapore bureau. It will be based in Singapore and will be hybrid (a mix of remote and in-office days). Our working hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Key responsibilities:

  • Pitch, report, and write 1-2 daily news stories in 300-450 words each
  • Identify fresh, interesting angles into business news on a daily basis
  • Interpret news quickly and write at lightning speed
  • Work on longer features (700 - 1,200 words)
  • Collaborate with fellow reporters in Los Angeles, Singapore, and London on cobylines

The ideal candidate:

  • Works well under pressure: You’ll be held to tight deadlines every day
  • Knows how to distill complicated concepts into clean, clear copy that needs minimal line edits
  • Is a voracious consumer of business and global breaking news
  • Knows how to advance a story with fast-turnaround reporting and analysis
  • Thrives working on short deadlines and juggling multiple responsibilities at once
  • Is a self-starter who’s eager to get their hands dirty and take on assignments from editors

Salary & Benefits:

  • SGD$ 4,500 monthly
  • PTO and paid public holidays

Business Insider is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and, when making employment decisions, does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, sex, sexual orientation, age, nationality or national origin, religion, disability, familial status, and military or veteran status.
