TITLE: RESIDENTIAL CARE OFFICER
DEPARTMENT: CARE AND DEVELOPMENT
REPORTS TO: HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Objectives of the role :
1) Provide supervision, caregiving and guidance for the children.
2) They are also parental figures, essential for cultivating a warm and nurturing environment by taking care of the physical and psychological needs of the children.
The Job:
Resident Management
1) Provide support, assistance and supervision in the delivery of services and programs to the children
- Wake the children up for school in the mornings, bring breakfast up to the units and ensure that they are safely belted up in the school bus
- Be in-charge of safe-keeping the school pocket money fund and for daily disbursement of allowance to the children
- Serve meals to the children and assist in cleaning up the dining areas
- Ensure that children are on task and on time for their scheduled activities. This includes monitoring the duration of children’s bath time
- Wash school shoes for young children and ensure that older children wash their own shoes
- During a fire alarm, ensure that the children are swiftly and orderly evacuated from the units to the basketball court
2) Ensure the resident’s safety, health & good behaviors when they are in the Home and during outings & appointments.
- Monitor the residents to ensure that they are present in the Home, unit or the activity you are supervising (or their whereabouts are known to you when they are not at the Home) and double check, communicate and give permission for residents to leave areas or activities under your supervision when it is requested or required.
- Ensure that they follow and adhere to the structure in the Home.
- Ensure that comfort, personal hygiene, and the safety needs of the residents are attended to.
- Monitor the residents to ensure that they are physically safe and do not partake in any risky behaviour or activities which may cause themselves or others physical injury – especially during playtime.
- Monitor & report to the Assistant Manager and Director of Care & Development of any complaints from residents, family members, volunteers or visitors to the Home.
- Monitor & manage the behaviour of the residents by encouraging & rewarding good behaviour and by preventing, discouraging or discipline misbehaviour in strict adherence to the rules & discipline procedures of the Home.
- You are required to strictly supervise residents, prohibit the use of electronic devices; adhere to a strict locked toilet & “one-at-a-time” policy; teach rules and provide reminders about good touch & bad touch; and check in with residents to flag any behavioural concerns and issues.
- Carry out operational interventions according to Care Plan
- Provide timely feedback on the residents behaviours to the Unit Committee and participate in department meeting, care plan meeting and houseparent meeting.
3) Oversee the healthcare needs of children by being alert to their general health conditions
- Administer basic first-aid as necessary to the children and highlight the child’s medical needs to the enrolled nurse promptly
- Administer oral and topical medication as prescribed by the doctor
- Report children’s healthcare and medical needs to the House Nurse promptly for immediate follow-up actions
4) Others
- Take on any other duties assigned by supervisor
Candidate Requirement:
Academic & trades qualifications
Essential
- Minimum GCE ‘O"
- Able to read, write and converse in English
Work experience & skills
- Stay vigilant during work hours to manage a big group of children
- Be flexible and be able to consider plausible alternatives when met with decisions
- Empathize and yet be firm when disciplining the children, and give them appropriate emotional support
- Has relevant working experience in other Homes or child-centered work environment
- Trained in first-aid and is able to perform first aid in case of emergency

- Can work independently, has a pleasant disposition
