- Drawings Review (P&ID & Isometric): Analyse piping schematics to verify that installation conforms to design standards, process flow, and piping isometrics for accurate fabrication. Cross-check that the system follows design specifications, noting discrepancies for correction.
- Material Inspection & Verification: Ensure all piping materials, fittings, and consumables meet ASME standards and project specifications through mill certificates and visual checks. Ensure material traceability by confirming that materials match project specifications and certifications (e.g., ASTM standards, material grades, heat numbers).
- WPS/PQR Compliance: Review and verify that Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) are qualified and comply with ASME Section IX, ensuring correct application on site. In PQR to ensure to verify for mechanical testing (Tensile, Impact, Bend, etc)
- Welding Process Monitoring: Oversee the welding process to ensure it complies with the qualified WPS, monitoring essential variables such as pre-heat, inter pass temperature, and welding technique.
- Check for any deviations from the approved welding procedures, ensuring proper filler materials, joint configurations, and weld sequences are used.
- Welder Qualification: Verify the qualification of welders by confirming that they meet the requirements outlined in ASME Section IX for the specific processes and materials they are working on. Witness welder qualification tests and maintain records of each welder's performance for the specific weld types and materials.
- Welding Joint Inspection: Inspect welded joints for conformity with welding symbols, dimensions, and tolerances as per engineering drawings and ASME Section IX requirements, ensuring correct joint preparation and quality.
- NDT Supervision: Supervise non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT) to assess the integrity of welds according to ASME acceptance criteria table.
- Piping Fabrication & Installation Inspection: Inspect piping fabrication for correct fit-up, alignment, and installation as per project drawings and standards, checking pipe supports, alignment, and joint integrity.
- Pressure Testing: Witness and approve hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure tests on piping systems, ensuring that the pressure holds for the designated duration as per the ASME code and client requirements. (Hydrostatic Test, Pneumatic Test, etc). Review and sign off on pressure test reports, ensuring that all safety and procedural guidelines were followed during the testing.
- Documentation Control: Ensure proper documentation control, including test reports, inspection records, and welding logs, for creating and maintaining the piping test package, ensuring traceability and compliance.
- Communicate regularly and closely with clients or contractors to provide updates on quality control, inspections, and test results. Ensure all piping-related documentation, such as material certificates, welder qualifications, NDT reports, and test packages, are properly maintained and meet the required standards for final handover.
