JOB DESCRIPTION
You will report to our Head of Claims, while independently managing your own case load, primarily consisting of Protection and Indemnity (P&I), Freight Demurrage & Defence (FDD) and Charterers Liability claims.
You will ensure an efficient and seamless claims experience for our clients, advocating their needs and supporting as required in communication with Underwriters and P&I Clubs, as well as lawyers, surveyors, service providers and/or stakeholders.
Our claims team members are expected to be technically knowledgeable and proactive, while always attentive to the specific concerns, needs and requirements of our clients, ensuring value is added in the process.
Flexibility to work outside standard office hours is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Mainly but not limited to:
Core Duties
- Manage and oversee P&I, FDD and Charterers liability claims, ensuring thorough analysis and timely resolution.
- Provide legal advice and interpretation of charter party agreements, especially with respect to the charterer's liability and defence claims (always keeping in mind our role as brokers).
- Work closely with shipowners, charterers, and insurers to handle claims, ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and contractual obligations.
- Liaise with underwriters and clients to ensure effective communication and resolution of claims.
- Serve as the primary backup for the Head of Claims, stepping into their role during absences to ensure seamless claims operations.
- Assist in the preparation of claim reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct regular reviews of claims processes and strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Liaise with external legal counsel, surveyors, and experts as required to support claims management and resolution.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Marine Insurance laws and P&I regulations with a focus on the Singapore market.
Additional Duties
- Participate in projects and initiatives that contribute to the strategic goals of the Claims Department and the Company.
- Handle ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Head of Claims or senior management.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Legally trained in Singapore with a strong understanding of Marine Insurance laws.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with Maritime Law/Marine Insurance claims management, preferably within a law firm, shipowner's or charterer’s office, or a marine insurance company.
- Proven experience in interpreting charter party agreements and managing related claims is essential for this role.
SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES
- In-depth knowledge of marine insurance claims and the marine insurance market, with focus on P&I, FDD and/or Charterers liability aspects.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal documents and contractual terms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with various stakeholders including underwriters and clients.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to work outside regular office hours due to the nature of claims work.
