As a Legal Counsel of Singlife, you will be responsible for providing legal and regulatory advice to the business and managing and mitigating legal risks across the Singlife Group of Companies.


Purpose of the Role

This role is responsible for providing legal and regulatory advice to the business and managing and mitigating legal risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for promoting an environment where a risk management culture is embraced.
  • Proactively engage the business and to get involved in the early stage of discussions.
  • Understand the strategy and objectives of the business and effectively communicate the risks and legal issues involved in any decision to management.
  • Provide high quality and timely legal expertise and support to the business units (“BU’s”) to control, manage and mitigate risks arising from legal transactions, litigation, claims, changes in the laws, non-compliance with existing laws, regulations, policies and related requirements in respect of investment management and general corporate governance.
  • Identify and notify the business of impending or implemented changes in the law that may impose restrictions on the business or create opportunities, advantages or mitigate exposures
  • Ensure that key risks are identified, assessed, measured, frequently monitored, managed and reported.
  • Accountable for all legal advice provided to the business. Consult and concur with Head of Legal and Corporate Secretariat and Group Head of Legal, Compliance and Secretariat in relation to complex legal issues and/or matters which have significant impact on the business and company as a whole.

Requirements

Experience

  • Good people skills and interacts well with other members of the management team
  • At least 10 years’ experience with 5 years as in-house counsel in the financial services industry preferably in an entity engaged in insurance and distribution of insurance products/services and/or asset management. Prior experience in life & health or general insurance or distribution of unit trusts and other securities an advantage.

Education

  • LLB (Hons) degree from Singapore or other common law jurisdictions
  • Called to the Singapore Bar
