RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Description: Inclusive Education Teacher

Responsible to: Principal

Job Descriptions

The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people with a range of learning needs. You will be able to demonstrate a working understanding of how these needs impact upon learning and behaviour in the classroom and work with teachers across Pre-school and Primary to ensure the rights of each child are met and supported.

You will work with school leadership, teaching staff and support staff to assist in all aspects of the work to promote a healthy and supportive learning environment. Committed to delivering the highest quality education and with experience of working with special needs, you will help us achieve the highest of standards and continue to deliver the best for our learners.

Duties and Responsibilities

A. General Responsibilities:

  • Supporting, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of colleagues so that they teach inclusive lessons
  • Planning and preparing lessons in order to deliver the curriculum, ensuring effective breadth and balance
  • Identifying clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes, with appropriate challenge and high expectations
  • Organising and managing groups or individual learners, ensuring differentiation of learning needs, reflecting all abilities
  • Planning and supporting opportunities to develop the social, moral, emotional and cultural aspects of learning
  • Developing and maintaining a regular system of monitoring, assessment, record-keeping and reporting on the progress and development of learners in the school community.
  • Ensuring students attain, achieve and make appropriate rates of progress as determined by agreed targets
  • To participate in staff meetings as required
  • To communicate and consult with families over all aspects of their child's education academic, social and emotional
  • If required, to be a mentor to a learner or group of learners and communicate regularly with their families
  • To support teaching teams with observations or learners identified with additional learning needs
  • To guide and support teaching teams in following our inclusive education policy practices and processes at EtonHouse
  • To support teaching teams in working alongside families and external agencies to coordinate learner support
  • To support parent liaison and admissions team to identify additional learning support and develop an understanding of a learner's needs prior to enrollment
  • To support the school in identifying professional learning required to develop inclusive education within our school community
  • To undertake other roles or responsibilities that support inclusive education and to work in collaboration with the School Leadership Team to identify areas of development in the school community to promote inclusive education
  • To be part of our school Wellness Team

B. Achieving Academic Progress:

  • To work with the school Leadership Team to monitor and analyse the academic progress of the cohort of students in the provision in your subject area/s in order to secure and sustain effective learning, with particular reference to the proportion of learners who are able to meet age-related learning goals
  • To identify underachievement in your subject areas with a view to establishing and coordinating improvement strategies
  • To keep minutes of the Student Progress Meetings, and ensure action points are implemented and tracked

C. Leadership and Management:

  • To motivate and work with others to create a shared culture and positive climate of inclusive education.
  • To create and maintain effective partnerships with families to support and improve learners' achievement and personal, social development
  • To participate in school community information events
  • To contribute to the management of key school events

D. Administration:

  • To develop and maintain individual learner records as necessary and ensure that they are kept up to date and relevant
  • To monitor learner behaviour, progress, attendance and achievement and, in consultation with the Leadership Team, decide on appropriate interventions
  • To monitor incidents where students require positive handling and ensure appropriate recording and reporting takes place in accordance with school policies
  • To oversee learner progress on their courses in your subject area/s in order to identify underachievement, with a view to establishing and co-ordinating improvement strategies
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Education or higher from an accredited institution, an education qualification in special needs will be a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of inclusive education
  • Commitment to working in an educational environment that offers academic rigour and excellence in teaching
  • An understanding of and experience in working in an IB Primary Years Programme is desirable
  • Sound knowledge of curriculum
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sensitivity toward cultural diversities
  • Ability to build community through positive interactions with, learners, families and colleagues
  • Self-motivated with a high energy level
  • Demonstrates use of initiative while showing flexibility and adaptability
