A Research Fellow position is currently available in the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS).
Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is ranked 11th globally. It is also placed 1st amongst the world’s best young universities. EOS at NTU Singapore is a national science Research Center of Excellence. Its mission is to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies.
The Air Pollution and Health team's research of Prof. Steve Yim focuses on the interactions between climate and air quality, and the resultant impacts on public health and ecosystem. The team's ongoing research is to develop, advance and utilize the state-of-the-art multi-scale atmospheric models, along with measurement and statistical approaches, to understand the mechanisms that drive the climate-air quality interactions, and evaluate the impacts on human exposure, mosquito abundance and soil acidity.
Particular interests are in investigating air quality impacts of sectoral emissions and transboundary air pollution at multiple spatial scales, studying regional climate change due to land-use changes and global climate change, and evaluating and quantifying the effects of air pollution on respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The team also assesses and develops emission control scenarios to provide scientific-based policy solutions for a sustainable environment in present and future years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement air pollutant sensitivity calculation in a chemical transport model
- Develop a response surface model
- Perform the developed model for different climate change emission scenarios
- Analyze the model results of various air pollutants considering meteorological processes and chemical reactions
- Document the results of the four tasks in reports and to publish papers in peer-review international journals
- Complete tasks that his/her supervisor assigns
Job Requirements:
- Ph.D. degree in atmospheric science/ geography/meteorology/environment
- Experience in development of chemical transport models especially sensitivity calculation
- Publications in the relevant work in recent 5 years
- Evidence of excellent English language and communication skills is essential to conduct research
- Evidence of independence in research direction and team spirit
