Telenor Asia in Singapore is set up as an ownership unit to oversee and drive value creation from our operating companies (OpCos) in the four markets Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Telenor Asia is made up of Investment Management Teams for each market and competency centres covering 1) Governance & Sustainability; 2) Portfolio Development; 3) External Relations and 4) Finance.
We are now looking for a new colleague in the position Vice President, Financial Performance, Investment Management to join the Thailand Investment Management team in Telenor Asia.
Telenor is together with CP Group the largest owner of True Corporation, Thailand’s largest mobile network operator. The merger of dtac and True was concluded in March 2023 and Telenor Group and CP Group own 30.3% each of the new merged company.
The Investment Management Team Thailand is responsible for setting and managing Telenor’s owner strategy, governance, priorities, and activities for our investment in True Corporation and involvement in the country. It coordinates the dialog with representatives from our partner and the Management of True. The team is responsible for Telenor Asia’s country representation in Thailand including coordination of key stakeholder engagement and communications activities.
In this role you will get a wide exposure to the Thailand market and the telecom industry in the country. You will be a key team member in driving Telenor Group’s agenda in Thailand and an advisor to the Telenor Asia Management and our nominated directors to the True Board. You will be interacting with Management of the company and senior representatives of the partner.
As Vice President, Financial Performance, Investment Management, Thailand you will have the following responsibilities:
- Maintain a multi-year ownership/value creating strategy for Telenor Asia’s interest in Thailand, including periodic review and reporting.
- Monitor and independently evaluate the strategy, financial and business performance of True and provide advice to Telenor’s senior management and the Telenor nominated directors on the Board of True on current and forward-looking development.
- Develop and maintain the process of proactively evaluating performance results up against company strategy, Telenor’s ownership strategy & priorities and competition. In addition, advise on potential improvement opportunities and risk.
- Primary responsible to prepare for briefings of Telenor nominated Directors for all True Board / Committee meetings and coordinate inputs from the relevant expert functions.
- Proactively provide financial analysis, reports, advice/recommendations and initiate and facilitate discussions for Telenor Asia Management and Business Area Meetings where advisory views are expected on a wider financial agenda beyond current performance, e.g., balance sheet optimization, P&L considerations, and risk.
- Organize and lead internal business reviews with Telenor Asia leadership in collaboration with key support functions in Telenor Asia. Coordinating activities towards key finance and controlling functions at Telenor Group HQ (Group Finance).
- Evaluate True’s investment proposals and advise Telenor nominated board of directors prior to approval in the board of directors.
- Contribute with analysis, position, and proposals to be used in the dialog with the partner. The role will be a key member in furthering the partner dialog.
- Primary responsible to prepare all memos for various internal and external stakeholders on topics ranging from Strategy, financial, governance, risk, ownership priorities etc. for Thailand.
We are looking for you who can relate to some of the following:
- Master’s degree in finance, Business Administration or equivalent and minimum 8 to 10 years professional experience. Added advantage for experience in leadership role.
- Financial expertise, either with a controller, investment banking or private equity, management consulting or similar background.
- Strong understanding and experienced in building financial models for valuations and financial returns analysis.
- Good understanding and appreciation of the governance and risk framework and their implementation.
- Telecom industry or operational telecom experience in relevant areas will be preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing – in English is a must.
- Strong networking and interpersonal skills and preferably working with or in joint ventures.
- An international orientation. Local market “know-how” will be considered beneficial.
