Responsibilities:
- Manage all legal matters related to the distribution and products for the Wealth and Personal Banking – Insurance (WPB Insurance) business in Singapore.
- Provide legal guidance on distribution-related activities, particularly the sale of WPB Insurance products through third-party channels (e.g., tied agencies, bancassurance partners, brokers, and independent financial advisors).
- Oversee insurance products including Life (e.g., high net worth, retail, and investment-linked products) and Health (e.g., individual/group hospitalisation and employee benefits).
- Preparing standard documentation for new products and reviewing/updating existing ones as needed.
- Participating in product governance meetings to assess legal, reputational, and conduct risks.
- Advising on customer suitability and sales-related considerations for complex products.
- Monitor and respond to changes in relevant laws and regulations, proactively managing legal risks and identifying potential emerging issues across products and distribution channels.
- Provide advice on related matters including marketing, customer acquisition strategies, digital initiatives, and data privacy, while collaborating with subject matter experts across the Legal team when required.
- Support the WPB Legal team in Singapore and engage with wider legal teams across Singapore and regional projects, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Master or equivalent
- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience.
- With at least 3 years spent in a leading law firm or equivalent in-house role. Significant legal experience in insurance or corporate/commercial practice from a reputable international or Singapore law firm
- Expertise in insurance or banking-related documentation with strong drafting skills.
- Familiarity with commercial transactions, including advisory on confidentiality, data privacy, competition law, dispute management, and consumer protection.
- Solid knowledge of insurance laws and regulations in Singapore, with cross-border legal experience in other Asian jurisdictions being an advantage.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and business teams.
- Open-minded and adaptable, with a willingness to embrace innovation and new working methods.
