We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Senior Counsellor to join our team, as we start to build a new team to support the mental health of our children & youth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in providing high-quality therapeutic support, counselling and guidance to individuals and groups. As a Senior Counsellor, you will play a critical role in leading counselling initiatives, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the development of our mental health services to support the needs of Life Community’s clients. This is a 2-year contract position and is subject to extension.
Key Roles & Responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the design and implementation of new mental health programmes and initiatives for the agency, ensuring they meet client needs and organizational goals. This includes developing a mental wellness curriculum to promote the importance of mental health in our children and youth.
- Provide individual and group counselling sessions to clients in need, employing evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address a range of mental health issues.
- Supervise and support junior staff, offering guidance, training, and performance feedback. Lead case consultations and team meetings, sharing insights and best practices.
- Work with programme staff on complex cases and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
- Planning and conducting training for staff on pertinent mental health issues and skills for first-line intervention and support.
- Developing and conducting psycho-education sessions on mental health issues and coping strategies.
- Maintain confidential and accurate counselling records. Provide management reports to Senior Management and the Board, as necessary.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, community partners and other external stakeholders to coordinate care and expand service reach.
- Participate in outreach activities to promote mental health awareness and services.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Counselling or Psychology.
- Minimum 5-7 years of working experience in counselling work involving children and youths. Experience or practice in intervention of special education needs will be an advantage.
- Must have a flair, understanding and patience to work with children & youth.
