Job Title: Research Assistant for Participatory Action Research Project Implementation
Project: Seniors Action for Greater Empowerment (SAGE) Programme
Overview: The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH), NUS, is seeking a Research Assistant with relevant experience to support the research and implementation of the Seniors Action for Greater Empowerment (SAGE) programme. SAGE aims to support initiatives that promote well-being and resilient ageing for seniors in Singapore, particularly focusing on lower socioeconomic communities. Working together with government, non-profit, and grassroots organizations, SAGE will empower older adults to actively participate in community development, fostering mental, social, and physical well-being. The chosen candidate will undertake a support role in running formative research for SAGE, including Participatory Action Research (PAR), the development and validation of instruments and approaches, and evaluation of community capacities. Following this, the candidate will be involved in implementing and evaluating the identified SAGE programmes planned together with the seniors.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct quantitative data analysis, from descriptive to predictive analytics, using software such as Stata, R, or SPSS.
- Assist in mixed-methods research and program evaluations.
- Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation.
- Manage project administration, including tracking milestones, budgets, and service contracts with key partners.
- Write progress reports for donors, synthesizing inputs from the team.
- Coordinate and organize community events.
- Apply creative problem-solving to address challenges in a fast-paced implementation environment.
- Ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the SAGE programme.
Qualifications
- Degree with training in public health, social sciences, health communication
- Trained in conducting quantitative data analysis and/or mixed-methods research
- Familiarity or experience of working with older people
Desirable Skills:
- Experience or knowledge of program evaluation and qualitative research
- Experience of working with community-based organisations
- Experience in working with survey companies and data collection teams to coordinate longitudinal data collection
- Strong interpersonal skills for negotiating with project partners and managing deliverables.
- Proficiency in project management, budget tracking
Team Environment: The selected candidate will join an active and supportive team focused on collaborative problem-solving and theory-driven, practical outputs that aim to improve quality of life at older ages and community resilience. This position reports to Dr. Zoe Jane-Lara Hildon and Dr Su Aw and is embedded within a dynamic research environment.
