Senior Scientist/ Principal Scientist, Cybersecurity (Privacy Enhancing Technologies), I²R

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Scientist with a strong background in Computer Science or Mathematics to lead our efforts in the research and development of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs). The ideal candidate will specialize in areas such as Multi-Party Computation (MPC) and Homomorphic Encryption (HE), with a proven track record of high-impact work in these fields. This role involves creating proofs of concept (PoCs) or software at higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), developing new algorithms, and leading R&D teams to push the boundaries of what is possible with PETs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and Development: Lead innovative research projects to develop new algorithms that enhance the efficiency, security, and applicability of PETs like MPC and HE.
  • Proof of Concept Creation: Design and develop advanced PoCs or TRL software that demonstrate the practical application and effectiveness of newly developed algorithms. This includes application of PETs in various domains like healthcare, finance, manufacturing, transport, etc.
  • Team Leadership: Direct and mentor a team of research scientists and engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and rigorous scientific evaluation.
  • Collaboration and Networking: Engage with the broader scientific community to keep abreast of latest developments, share findings, and collaborate on cutting-edge projects.
  • Publication and Dissemination: Author influential research papers for top-tier journals and conferences, and present findings at international forums to establish and maintain leadership in the field.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning of the data security group by aligning R&D activities with long-term organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience
  • Experience: Extensive experience in Privacy Enhancing Technologies, particularly Multi-Party Computation, Homomorphic Encryption, Confidential Computing, or other PETs.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage R&D teams in a high-tech environment.
  • Publications: A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, demonstrating significant contributions to the field of cybersecurity and PETs.
  • Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, proficient in algorithm design, and adept at programming in languages suitable for scientific computing and cybersecurity applications.
