Job Description

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Centre for International Law (CIL), National University of Singapore. This is a one-year contractual position offered in connection with CIL’s expansion of its research on artificial intelligence and technology law. The objective of the position is to develop the research capabilities and knowledge of junior scholars by immersing them in a dynamic and supportive research environment where they can enhance their understanding of different areas of international law and policy.

The duties of the incumbent will involve:

  • Assisting the AI and Technology Law Lead in research related to the programme’s ongoing projects in AI regulation, technology law, and related areas, including CIL’s role as an official observer in forums discussing the legal frameworks for AI and emerging technologies. This will involve examining the regulatory landscape for AI governance, ethical AI development, and the impact of AI on privacy, security, and human rights, while also exploring the intersections of AI, emerging technologies, and digital innovation, focusing on the development of legal frameworks to support responsible AI integration in global contexts.
  • Assisting with the development and organisation of seminars and workshops organized by CIL.
  • Conducting research and completing at least one publication for possible publication in a recognised journal at the termination of the position.

All research staff in CIL will have access to professional development opportunities (e.g., events, seminars, and training programmes) within NUS. They will also have opportunities to attend regional and international conferences, workshops and symposiums as well as other scholarly opportunities.

Qualifications

  • An LLM or JD degree or equivalent experience;
  • A solid foundation in AI and technology law, including knowledge of AI regulation, data protection, intellectual property, the ethical and legal challenges associated with emerging technologies, and an interest in cutting-edge and developing issues in AI Law governance;
  • Excellent analytical, research and writing skills A high degree of self-motivation and strong organisational and computer skills;
  • At least 2 years working experience.
