What does a construction engineer do?
A construction engineer assists with construction projects to ensure that teams build in accordance with the proper plans and specifications. They also help maintain and repair infrastructure systems, such as roads, dams, water supply systems and buildings. They work with engineers and construction crews to organize and complete projects. Some of their additional responsibilities might include:
- Developing construction project budgets, ordering materials and collecting and organizing resources and personnel, including structural engineering employees, tools, machines and physical materials
- Operating machinery and using tools to design complex structures like hydraulic systems and using computer software to plan and design projects and conduct risk analyses
- Overseeing building progress and enforcing safety regulations at construction sites and submitting building permits to the proper authorities
- Assessing the viability and potential risks associated with a construction project
