Our Tankers Department offer best-in-class performance for crude oil, clean, and dirty petroleum products. Producers and refiners value our negotiating expertise while oil companies, traders and shipowners rely on our insightful market intelligence to facilitate deals.
Role Summary
The main purpose of a Ship Broker is to act as a specialist intermediary/ negotiator between shipowners and charterers to arrange ocean transport of goods and commodities by sea, the employment of a vessel or to buy/sell ships on behalf of a client. We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Ship Broker to join our Tankers team in our Singapore office. You will work alongside our experienced Brokers to help strengthen relationships with existing clients for sales and help develop new business.
Ideally you will have some broking experience and be keen to develop your experience. You will be driven and self-motivated and be a strong relationship builder.
What you will be doing
- Update tonnage positions and market tonnage to clients (i.e. charterers and shipowners)
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all relevant charter party forms and company standard terms
- Set up and negotiate deals, including presenting the business to potential clients, negotiating the main terms of a contract, seeing it through to its conclusion and any follow up that may be involved
- Negotiate spot/ time charters to achieve maximum income for the clients
- Be aware of the positions and desired strategic directions for each ship assigned
- Coordinate with Chartering and Operations Departments to maximise space utilisation, minimise the number of port and berth calls and maximise the voyage’s financial results
- Coordinate all aspects of trans-shipments for respective cargoes
- Coordinating contracts of affreightment with clients to receive nominations on time and build programs which fit vessel schedules
- Maintain current voyage records and documentation to customers for tonnage loading within the service
- Assist the Operations Department to get an understanding of the more technical nature of shipping
- Interact with clients to establish a close working relationship
- Attend meetings and events with clients when required
- Maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients
- Help to manage internal data flow of key market information
- Maintain a database of daily market activities
What we are looking for
Key Attributes
- A minimum of 3 years shipbroking experience, inclusive of international work experience in alternative countries/ markets and in-depth knowledge of the Tanker market
- A degree from a reputable university will be highly regarded
- Previous experience or exposure within broking is desirable
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Personable and engaging and able to build strong relationships
- Good commercial judgement with good negotiation skills
- Driven, self-motivated and client focused
- Fluency in English and Mandarin is essential
- Strong numeracy skills and excellent presentation skills
- Confident and able to work well under pressure, with ability to adapt
- Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy
- Strong MS office skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word
