A bar & restaurant owned and run by the same passionate people of Tanglin Gin - Singapore’s first Gin Distillery. Tanglin Gin - Singapore’s first distillery has relocated to a central area with a F&B front, showcasing our products through hospitality, masterclasses and distillery tours with the aim to grow our brand organically. We produce an assortment of spirits (focused on but not limited to gin) and are looking for a motivated and responsible individual that will help us grow our F&B arm of the business.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operations Manager – Bar & Restaurant, to lead our restaurant team and ensure the smooth operation of our establishment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the hospitality industry, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record in managing restaurant operations. As the Operations Manager – Bar & Restaurant, you will be responsible for achieving financial goals, enhancing customer satisfaction, and fostering a positive work environment for staff.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Oversee daily restaurant operations and ensure high standards of service and product quality.
- Be present active on the floor, leading by example.
- Recruit, train, and mentor staff, creating a strong team culture and promoting professional development.
- Develop and implement effective strategies to improve employee retention and morale.
- Consistently review SOPs of setting up, closing the bar and restaurant as well as service sequence.
- Work closely with kitchen partners, providing feedback where necessary, and participating in weekly meetings to share feedback and bridge relationships with the brand and the leasee/partner
- Conduct monthly 1-1’s with all members of the front of house team, gathering operational feedback and providing feedback for personal development of individuals.
- Facilitate weekly 1-1 with General Manager, providing relevant reports and insight
Financial Management
- Manage the restaurant’s budget, including payroll, purchasing, and inventory control, setting up systems to analyse variances to achieve revenue goals.
- Monitor financial performance and prepare financial reports, analyzing trends to optimize profitability.
- Develop sales forecasts and set targets to achieve revenue goals.
Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring that service standards, health and safety regulations, and industry best practices are consistently met.
- Manage all aspects of bar and restaurant operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and cost control.
- Develop and implement effective operational procedures to optimize efficiency and improve guest satisfaction.
- Conduct Distillery Tours and Cocktail Masterclasses as and when required in the bar team’s absence.
- Fine tune the experiences and offerings of the venue and brand to enhance positive guest experiences.
Customer Experience
- Monitor guest satisfaction and resolve any issues or complaints promptly, including raising the bar for review platforms such as Google Reviews and TripAdvisor.
- Implement programs to enhance the overall dining experience and encourage repeat business.
- Ensure that all health and safety regulations are adhered to for the comfort of guests and employees.
- Work with marketing and reservation platforms to ensure a seamless booking experience, thereafter setting a customised email to thank guests for visiting as well as collect feedback.
Marketing & Community Engagement
- Collaborate with the marketing team to promote the restaurant through various channels such as Klook, Pelago, Seek Sophie and Venuerific, including social media and local events.
- Collaborate with marketing team and bar operators to develop promotional materials and campaigns for special events and season offerings.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and the local community.
- Stay updated on industry trends and competitor activities to inform strategic decisions.
Menu Development
- Work closely with the bar team and HQ to create and update the menu as needed.
- Develop and oversee the bar’s beverage programme, including cocktail and drink specials, ensuring quality, innovation and brand alignment by launching limited time cocktails with festivities or beverage related events such as “Negroni Week”, “World Gin Day” etc.
- Train staff on beverage knowledge, including wines, spirits and cocktails to enhance guest recommendations and staff confidence.
- Monitor product mix and log in data for analysis, to better understand development of the next menu as well as to create par levels to optimise holding cost.
- Monitor food quality and presentation, ensuring a consistent eating experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a Operations Manager or in a similar role within the bar and restaurant industry
- Strong leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of restaurant management software and financial, payroll, and HR systems.
- Ability to analyze company performance and develop strategies for growth.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
